I have a friend who is petite and overweight, where should she shop?

She's in her late teens and wants to go for a professional or sophisticated look. If anyone has any suggestions on where she should shop that'd be great. She's sorta pear shaped. I really want her to feel good about her appearance, especially since she's getting ready to go to college. Please help me out on this!!

Update:

meant to say that she is short, lol, sorry about the mix up

People are suggesting american eagle, but that store is a joke for plus sized people. They run small and unly go up to xxl and the jeans will be too long for your friend. But you can still give it a shot of you'd like. A lot of these places have great clothes:

You should let her know that it's not the size on the outfit that matters, and to make sure she gets a size that fits her. Also buying clothes that fit a short person can be dificult. I would suggest taking some clothes to a tailor that way they can work with her body shape. Hope this helps your friend!

stay away from the tight fitted clothes..but choose clothes that taper in., at the waist etc... but not tight.. also stay away from alot of patterned designs in clothes.. to much floral will make her look bigger... but a little floral is great.. and choose colors to emphasize her good features and also the hair and makeup...should emphasis her face.. hair around the face rather than always pulled back is slimming as well

wear tops lighter than the bottoms or skirts whatever...

and dont wear baggy baggy clothes.. it will only make her features larger.... hugsss an good luck sweetie to u and her

You're friend is women's petite, maybe?

    Look for knee-length skirts/dresses

    Longer length twin sweater sets

Blazer that is med/long length but not too long.

These sites have classic styles. Classic never goes out of fashion and she will look FABULOUS!

I guess some people here don't know petite means SHORT!

Anyway I would try Old Navy.

    At a thrift store!!!

She should go on a diet, sleep with rain wear on or saran wrap to shed extra inches, exercise, walk a lot, drink water and in 3 month time ,she can buy NICE cloth (and does not need to go to the TENT DEPARTMENT...)

I don't think she should be shopping in the places like pac-sun, aeropostal, hollister, ect.....

But some good stores would be some that have lots of choices! :

    Kohls... http://www.kohls.com/main/home.jsp

    JcPenny... http://www.jcpenny.com/jcp/default.aspx

    Macys... http://www.macys.com/

    Carson's... http://www.carsons.com/home.jsp

There's AVENUE too but the clothes could be a little too oldish for her. (it's a store for people in their 30+ or maybe even 20+)

    Hope it helped!!!!!
