hurricane flossie?
I am taking a cruise around the Hawaiian islands this weekend (Sun). Does anyone know if Hurricane Flossie would have passed through by then? I know it's been downgraded to a cat. 2, but I want to know if my cruise (around the 4 islands) will be affected.

nobody can say for sure. according to my past experience, flossie should have passed the islands by then. you may still expect some heavy rains depending on where your cruise ship is. check with your travel agent!
i found some useful information more relating to people who are just on vacation on the island on this site http://travel.families.com/blog/travel-alert-hurri...
here is a great doppler radar map which is always current

It should have passed by Sunday. I'd say everything will be fine, just call the tour agency on Thursday and find out. It should be passing Maui early Weds. morning
Flossie is categorized as a category 4 hurricane and is traveling in the west-northwest direction. It is expected to hit about 85 nautical miles off the coast of Kailua Kona, on the Big Island, and simmer down to a category 2 hurricane by then. It is expected to hit around 200 nautical miles off the coast of the Southeast coast of Maui and have simmered down to a category 1 by then. Since tropical cyclones can change directions, there is a chance that the hurricane can hit the islands. To date, the predictions of the scientists have been, on average, 200 nautical miles off.
With it, Flossie is bringing strong trade winds around 85 mph, high surf, 10-15 face, and storms Tuesday thru Wednesday. So far, it seems as though the areas of North Kihei thru Launiupoko have been quite windy and East Maui very rainy. (8/14)

Depending on damage, it may be delayed, but most likely not. The hurrican is passing by Hilo early afternoon / evening HST, and night for EST. It is suspected to be gone by early Sat morning HST from being anywhere near the islands. It should not affect Honolulu too much except for winds and rain, but Hilo and the Big Island are going to take the brunt of the storm.

Just an FYI...for future reference, don't take a cruise or trips to hurricane prone area's around August until end of September, hurricane season in the south. That's why there are discounts. You're whole trip can be ruined by bad weather.

I believe that by Saturday around 2am it will have passed the islands. I saw that Flossie will be passing the main island by around 2am Wednesday morning.
Have a great time!

...and since you are taking a trip to Hawaii during hurricane season, you may want to think about bying some travel insurance. May not be too late. You can even check with the credit card company to see what kind of coverage you will have while traveling....if you charged it on yours. Or have the person who charged it check.
