How soon will New Orleans area start to evacuate?

How far away ?

How many days out ?

Will they start when it is by Cuba or later?

Stocking up on supplies has already started and we are at least 7 to 10 days out.

i dont think there's anything to worry about, but the important papers are packed and the car is gassed up. if dean makes any turn north i'm gone. i won't wait and sit in 20 hours of traffic. it's a good excuse for a vacation anyway.

though last year i think most people were on the same page i am, an uneventful hurricane season has made many complacent and i have many friends who say they will not leave until there is a mandatory evacuation ordered.

Despite what many outsiders or possible locals might think the state has a very good evacuation system in place. In case of a storm you should listen to your local news and if advised to leave you have to use your own judgment but at some point when there is a definite path and its a hurricane you should listen to the experts.

This is something you can try as well....

Mayor C. Ray Nagin and the City of New Orleans Office of Emergency Preparedness urges all residents and visitors to register for the city’s new, high-tech emergency notification system that will assist in delivering real-time messages via cell phone, email or pagers in the event of an emergency. NOLA Ready will send messages to the city’s first responders, local government officials, business owners, visitors, and registered residents of New Orleans. The system also allows for shared emergency information with surrounding parishes, across Louisiana and the country. To register go to

The Gulf isn't undesirable right here because of fact hurricanes do no longer make it around Louisiana to the better Texas coast. some might get right here yet possibly approximately 2 or 3 each and every 2 years. in case you pick 70-eighty ranges the months could be mid April to late might, and late September to late October. Rain in March and April, hurricane season starts in June and leads to September. Kemah isn't risky so some distance as climate is going so i don't understand what you mean by ability of risky.

It's a bit premature---the storm is only a tropical storm and has not even passed the Caribbean yet. I don't live in the city now, so I will not be evacuating.

Evacuate from what? Did something new happen while I was away? I thought they are trying to do everything they can to get people coming back.

Sorry to disappoint, but I stay put. I don't recommend riding out a storm, but I am better prepared than most, and on high ground.

Hey, I watched the 10 o'clock news and really all that was said was that they would know much more in the morning.
