Well flats are really in style at the moment.

But if you are more use to having sneakers on, try skimmers (otherwise called sneaker flats). They are like flats and sneakers combined. Very comfortable! You can find a lot of them at Hot Topic (where there are skaterish styles), AE, Payless Shoes, and Forever 21.

You could also try tennis shoes. They are pretty much the same as skate shoes except they are slimmer and still has the athletic properties to them (if you like doing sports). Check your local sports store like SportChek.

Flats are somewhat in style right now, but they're so last season. Try something new. Gladiator sandals, wedges, Rainbows, or just some funky retro Nike's.

ballet flats are great for now, but when the weather gets colder, get some cute boots to tuck your jeans into.

white on white nike air forces or sum hot b-bal shoes frum air jordan. or sum air nike air max 90's. you can get this all at footlocker or footaction or champs

how about pumps/ballet shoes. they can be worn with anything and you can get them in almost every colour! oh and they are so cheap!
