When should I pick my cherry tomatoes?
Everything I've read suggests that I pick the tomatoes once they've reached a bright red color. I have several that have turned the desired color, but their size remains relatively small.
Will they continue to grow if I leave them on the vine? I don't want them to spoil, but I would like them to get bigger than a dime in circumference.
Suggestions?
Thanks everyone. I figured they had finished growing in size, but they are much smaller than a cherry (hence, I was prompted to ask the question).
I've already picked a couple and will attest that they are tasty, I just hoped that my wee little tomatoes would reach more of a "cherry" size.
p.s. I do want bigger tomatoes, that's why I also planted heirlooms and big beefy tomatoes.
Thanks again!

This is fun, as I'm growing several varieties of cherry tomatoes myself right now. I would agree with many of the other answerers, the ones that are turning red are full grown.
One thing that has not been mentioned though, is a rule of plants in general: If you cut and trim them back a little, it tends to stimulate growth. Thus, if you have a few tomatoes that are ripened up, pick them now, and quickly. In fact, if you can, pick a whole stem group worth, and cut the stem off. This, along with lots of water and sun, will cause your plant to grow even more. Although it may not be that noticeable, it should make the tomatoes that are still growing get a little bigger before they ripen.
In general, though, the best thing you can do for tomatoes is tons of water and lots of light. If either of these ingredients is lacking, your tomatoes will not come out great.

As most of the answers state, they are the size of cherries. If you want bigger cherry tomatos, next year when you plant, use Miracle grow for tomatos (as directed) and you just may wind up with quarter sized tomatos. The down size it the larger the cherry tomato, the better the chance of it splitting open before it is fully ripe.
I say next year because it's a bit late in the season to push larger growth on the plant itself....though, you could try it for those tomatos that are still small and green. It really does work!

It depends on how far the tomato has developed, but most tomatoes will ripen off of the vine. In the fall I bring all the left over green tomatoes indoors before the first frost. When brought into a heated room they ripen in a few days.

No, once they are red they are done growing and ready to pick. If you wait any longer they will start to rot. Pick the red ones now, and enjoy!
Cherry tomatoes are the size of cherries when they are ripe, therefore yours won't get much bigger than that.

Cherry tomatoes are called cherry tomatoes because they are small like cherries. If you want bigger tomatoes you need to plant bigger tomatoes.

If you want the best flavour, then pick them off the vine when it has turned red.
If you must cut them down early, I suggest you cut the tomatoes together with the stem/vine too - this will let the tomatoes to ripen nicely.

if they are bright red thats when they need to be picked, they are cherry tomatoes so they are small, there are always going to be bg ones and small ones
