My toilet sounds like it's dripping and water is "leaking" into the bowl, how do I fix it?

I checked the tank and the water isn't flowing down the tube, I think it may be the rubber stopper not sealing tightly. Any and all help would be great, thanks.

Google " How to fix a toilet" it will bring up some great websites. I fixed my mom's and mine doing that. Mine just had sediment on the bottom of the flapper, just wiped it off and it quit leaking. Good Luck

For one, if the rubber stopper is leaking you shouldn't be able to hear the drip. You have water on top of the stopper and water below in the bowl, both of which would prevent you from hearing the drip. You would almost have to put your ear to the toilet to hear a drip through the porcelain.

If the tube is not leaking, maybe you have a leak in the valve itself. You should be able to see it splash though. Or, you were probably holding the tube up to see if it leaked; therefore, you either didn't give it enough time or it could have enough siphoning pressure to cause the drip when the tube is inserted back into the bowl filler. Either way, if you are sure it is coming from you toilet, buy a tank replace kit, it have all of the part to replace everything and it cost you less than $15.

That drip you are hearing could be coming from inside your walls, behind that toilet or some place else nearby.

If it's leaking, then it's the rubber stopper -- you should check to make sure it's not damaged or obstructed.

However, it could be the case that your toilet isn't correctly shutting off its water flow after you flush, and very slowly filling up; the trickling sound could be the extra water draining through the overfill tube (or whatever it's called).

You can check the float switch in the toilet tank to see if there's a problem -- often just some jiggling can get it to shut the water valve and solve your problem.

Well, the rubber stopper not working would have water running on the outside of the toilet, unless you mean the flapper. Try setting your water level a little lower in the tank or install a new flapper.

put a little food coloring in the tank. if the water in the bowl turns color then yes it is the flapper. turn off the water to the toilet flush the tank and remove the flapper. take to plumbing shop and get a new one.

Change the rubber flapper and the rubber seal next to the intake.

Replace the flapper. These rubber things get stiff and brittle with age so a new one should fix the problem.
