What type of poetry do you tend to like better? (rhyming or freeform)?

Just wondering :) For me it depends on the poem. I love silly, rhyming poems like those by Shel Silverstein. I also enjoy emotional not rhyming poems.

It's never been an either/or sort of thing for me. I like both, I have an appreciation for both. I don't even think I consider it at all when I'm reading poetry.

    Do well.

It depends on the poem for me as well. If a poem rhymes, I want to feel like the poem is driving the rhyme, rather than the rhyme driving the poem. I also want a reason for the from the poem uses - whether in terms of rhyme, stanza/line structure, or whatever.

If I am reading a poem to my kids, I think they feel the poem more if it rhymes with a steady rhythm. Many themes, though, do not work as well with such a tightly-controlled format. Angst- or terror-ridden poems, for example, should not fall into perfect heroic couplets without a strong sense of irony and at least an internal strain against that form.

I love free verse. In my opinion, it's easier to express my thoughts into a poem without trying to rhyme. Some people have a real talent for rhyming, but I don't! My favorite types of poems, though, are ones that I can relate to, and they describe exactly how I feel at the moment (whether they rhyme or not) But like you, I like emotional, not rhyming poems.

All poems that offer thought are favorites of mine, rhyming or no. By the way, I love Shel Silverstein. Call me goober, but he is my top poet. I have all of his books. It's nice to know I'm not the only one. :)

What type of poem do I prefer?

    A question deemed not hard.

    An honest answer I presume,

Is "I don't like the bard".

Give me a simple rhyming tune,

    With lyrics all in time.

The other stuff will make me frown,

    Like sucking on a lime.

It might be kind of silly,

    It might seems quite contrite.

But that's the fact of which you asked,

The stuff I read and write.

There you are, my answer in the style I prefer.

Maybe it'll give you a smile to share with others.

    :)

I like iambic pentameter and I like the tone and timing of rhymes.

But a reliance of too much rhyme will bring criticisms of ineptitude.

I like both of them but most of all I like rhyming ones, They are sometimes short but sweet.
