NHRA . . . and before anyone says anything, I'll answer the question of "What is the sport in someone driving in a straight line?"
Answer: Straight line, sure, but try doing it in a car that's traveling at 330 plus miles an hour, that sometimes refuses to move in a straight line . . . even if you have a flawless run down the track, what's to say that your competitor in the lane next to you doesn't . . . what's to stop him from crossing the center line, and t-boning you? Answer . . . absolutely nothing.
Accidents in drag racing are by far more spectacular, and usually, a lot more explosive than anything you see in NASCAR, or IRL, due to the speeds at which they travel, and the kind of fuel (nitromethane) they use, an accident in those kinds of conditions can easily result in the death of the driver, and, should the car disintergate, the deaths of fans.
That is the reason that most NHRA drivers have to show constant restraint when on the track, one wrong twitch of the wheel could send them into the opposite lane, and right into the path of their opposition, or, into the wall, where flying debris can find its way into the stands.
Also, imagine trying to contain seven thousand horsepower in a straight line . . . the horsepower in NASCAR, or IRL engines equal the amount of horsepower that only one cylinder in an NHRA engine puts out.

Well I think I am one of the fortunate ones who really loves just the sport of racing.
It was NASCAR for many years and don't get me wrong I still like it however I only watch selected tracks now. There series has changed so much to cater the mindless fans they have created and their politics to try and cater to the corporate goofballs that they have let take control. When Bill France Sr. became sick and later passed on well that was pretty much the end of NASCAR for me.
I really like the series that run on road courses. One group that here in the states we don't get to see very much is the V8 super cars. That is just some flat out getting it.
Not to keen on the streets that Champ cars seem to get stuck on all the time. That is just a follow the leader race.
And if it wasn't for the IRL, those worthless cookie cutter tracks would just be condos now. I really don't know why they can't generate more fan base. Other than just the obvious split between the champ and IRL cars.
F1 is great but I would like to see them run a few more races. I think we are on a three week break now.
Love the drags too. Pro stock WOW!! every race is a nail biter and then just the raw power of the funny cars and top fuel. If you have never been up close to one of those engines reeving you haven't heard anything.
I also love the 2 wheel guys. AMA, MOTO GP, SBK. These guys are some brave souls.

Ok for starters does it have wheels & a motor? Ok then it must be worth watching for a little bit at least.
I would have to seriously flip a coin as to which is my absolute favorite is. I really do enjoy so many. I think as of lately I have become a pretty big IndyCar fan. I mean come on 210+ MPH wheel to wheel is some pretty exciting stuff. The fact that they have blended in road & street courses into the schedule as well as a great variety of ovals(short, long, tight, wide) makes it about as interesting(at least to me) as any of the others that seem to be heavy one way or the other.
And being a dirty country boy at heart I think my close second would have to be the World of Outlaws Sprtint Car Series. Come on 1200lbs, 750+hp sliding sideways at over 130MPH, with no mirrors or spotters calling the action.
Just my take.
Thanks

First of all, i'm a motorsports fan. which means i like any racing series thats got wheels (and also some that dont have wheels).
but having said that, i prefer the SuperGT series (formerly Japanese Grand Touring Championship) simply because the cars used there are still close to production model cars you see on the road (with just a few exceptions...) plus the series puts emphasis on equality in terms of horsepower.
i also love NASCAR but due to the vagueness of some of its rules concerning driver discipline and technical infringements, it sort of puzzles me how do they really decide the penalties... i mean this sort of thing was already taken up in an issue of Racer Magazine if i recall, it was issue 160, August 2005 (the one with Danica Patrick on the cover)

I have never seen a bad dirt late model race, yet. Nascar modifieds always put on a great show as well, and the American LeMans series is a blast with all those different cars and drivers on the same track.

I like just about all of the road racing series. Formula 1 is my favorite of all. I've been to the USGP and saw F1 cars in person and I just can't believe how fast they can accelerate and take turns. Plus the sound of those engines is just incredible.
I also like The American LeMans Series, Rolex Sports Car Series, and Champ Car.

I'll say NASCAR because ive watched it my whole life, and the competition is great, but the IRL isn't that bad, there just isnt that much of an interest among casual fans in it anymore.

NASCAR because I was raised around it. I used to sleep in Trickles hauler when I was a baby and grew up with Kenseth. Also Kluever is one of our good friends. I also have a need for speed.
