Can hamsters "fart"?

My biology teacher said that mice can't fart. She knew because she had one. I'm not sure if that applies w/ hamsters, though.

Update:

thx you guys! i guess my hamster can fart. lol. :]

Well I am assuming that since hamsters eat, drink and defecate, that they do pass gas. Most likely you will not smell or hear it, is because they are tiny animals and well, they have tiny "farts". If your biology teacher insists that mice don't pass gas, ask her what scientific proof does she have to back it up.

I think that your Biology teacher could be wrong because if they don't fart than where would all of the access gas go??? I read that all animals, snakes, rodents, frogs etc. fart, even if it isn't noticeable like human toots!! lol

Why do you ask...it is a good question though.

    Hope this helped.

OH YES, my husband and I had big grey teddybear hamster that let out the stinkiest farts that you want to stay up wind of her, my husband and I kept looking at each other thinking one of us farted, but did not. We got next to the hamster cage and we both had to cover up our noses, smelled really bad. I even had two hamsters in the same cage with one female rat, well I could not figure out why two of the female hamsters and female rat ran into the other corner of the cage, male hamster kept making el stinko farts as I was about ready to fill up the water bottle. Don't ask me what he ate, but sure did smelled bad. My husband kept asking me what I fed our big grey teddybear hamster to make her let out a stinky fart, I told him I don't know. I did had four pet mice and one of them let out a silent but deadly fart, so how can mouse not fart, I do remember one of my pet mouse let out silent but deadly fart that scared the other three female mices away into the mouse home in the cage.

My dog farts. So do lots of other animals. I don't see how it is different with hamsters. Or mice, for that matter. Farting is good for animals. :)
