My Jack Russell Terrier is being stubborn and doesn't want to be potty trained?
I have tried every trick in the book and I'm getting close, but she is old enough to have learned. She loves to stay outdoor, but I think she forgets what she out there for and then comes back in and soils. I got that pretty well under control and then she has been messing at night. She and her sister have dry food out all the time and I feed them at 6pm which I figure will give them enough time to process dinner and leave their offerings outside. Any help will be... helpful.
Thanks to everyone except Alien. I'm having trouble with Yahoo Answers server, so my question are being duplicated and different people answered on different postings. Sorry, I'm not sure what is wrong.

well you could put newspaper down where she usually does the toilet and slowly work your way to the door, and when she does do it outside give her lot and lots of praise. If you catch her in the act you should quickly pick her up and take her outside then give her praise when she's outside, even if she has stopped doing the toilet by this time.I know this could make a bit of a mess picking her up but it would be worth it in the end.

Might be are trying feeding2-3 X's per Day and nothing after 5 pm.Don't go away food down always .It can be ok to go away water down all the time however normally pups will eat continually and poop all night time.Possibly give him a bite and something to play with to keep him mind off consuming and pooping.Or possibly even are trying crate coaching, get you a ebook at Pets Mart or Pet Co on crate coaching. It isn't that unhealthy for the night time when they get used to it and so they study not to go of their possess atmosphere.Excellent success!!!

That is kind of surprising to me. I have a Jack Russell and she was amazingly easy to potty train. I bred her three times with a Rat Terrier and the puppies were always easy to train too. Now, I tell you what was hard to potty train...A Yorkie! I tell you what...those dogs are stubborn!!
I digress...sorry. The best advice that I have for you is persistence. I would take mine out every hour. Every time I saw her take a drink, I would take her out. Every time she got up from a nap, I would take her out. Whenever she would start to sniff the ground...I would take her out. She finally got to where she would go to the door. Just keep her little tush out there until she does her business. Maybe while she is outside, don't play with her. At least until she has gone to the restroom. Let her reward be playtime (but only after she goes). I would keep mine in a crate at night. She never had accidents in there (thank goodness). I don't know what you do with yours at night, but you might want to give a crate a try.
Just keep up the consistency...she will get a hang of it.

possibly attempt feeding2-3 X's in line with Day and not something after 5 pm.do no longer go away nutrition down each and all of the time .that's ok to go away water down each and all of the time yet sometimes domestic dogs will consume consistently and poop all night.possibly supply him a bite and something to play with to maintain him innovations off eating and pooping.or possibly even attempt crate coaching, get you a e book at Pets Mart or puppy Co on crate coaching.that's not that undesirable for the night whilst they get used to it and that they discover ways to no longer flow of their very very own ecosystem.sturdy success!!!

1) crate train her.
2) stop leaving food out for her all the time and give her real meals so that her poop times will be more predictable.
3) go outside with her to make sure she actually goes to the bathroom before you let her in, that way you know she went and she doesn't have the chance to be stubborn or to get into bad habits.

OK, you need to get a kennel/cage for your dog to get kennel trianed, that is the eaisiest way to train a dog.
Get one just enough for your dog to sit, stand, and lay down confortably.
Next, at night or when you are gone, put your dog in its kennel, make sure there is a bed or towel of somesort in there so it can be comfier.
Right when you get him up in the morning or when you get home take him out, and take him straight to the door to go outside and potty, go with him, let him sniff around and dont let him go in until he goes potty, once he does go to him and say in a high voice "good (name here)"!!!
Keep doing that, and then every 2 hours take him outside to go potty and poop.
Dont leave any food or water out, only give your dog water, every 2 hours, until he is potty trained, i now leave food and water out all day for my schnauzer, casue she got potty trained within 2 months or less, it goes by very fast if you do it right. feed your dog in the morning adn at night.

feed at the same time every day. Kennel at night. a dog willnot soil were they slep. Take them out everyday at the same time. Routine is key.
also take away food and water after 5:00.

Best dog ever!
Jacks are very smart I know ours is, she will learn but you must be persistent. jacks have tons of energy as you know and they hate crates. you may have to set your alarm and get up a couple of times at night and let her out even if she doesn't have to go, that might help her to understand that she can go out at night if she has to go. talk to a good dog trainer about obedience training thees dogs are so smart and willful that if they get the idea that they can manipulate you they will.

Jack Russell Terrorist are something. You say you have food out all the time? Maybe don't leave food out all day and feed her at 5 PM.

I trained my dog by saying in a loud stern voice NO and spanking him not too hard on the butt. then when he pees outside say GOOD BOY but in a really sweet and high voice, you can give him a treat too.
