Question about the swerving before the green flag drops?

Ok, I may be the only person in the world who doesnt know why all the drivers swerve their car back-and-forth before the green flag is dropped? What is the deal there? Thanks!

It's how they shake up their daiquiris without taking their hands off the wheel . . .

Okay, it's to warm up the tires, and to scrub off any gravel and junk they've collected (they're soft and gooey).

Two reasons: They swerve to scrub their tires and to get a little heat into them.By scrubbing,I mean to clean the tires of any build up on them and also to roughen the surface a little for better "grip".A lot of times if they change tires with just a few laps left, they will put on scuffed tires which will give them better traction (grip) for a short run.If they put on sticker tires,it tales a few laps for the tires to to get the maximum grip.

Source(s): I have a friend who drove in the old Winston Cup series years ago,and now builds chassis for race cars.

Warming up the tires for the start.

Remember- the only stupid question is the one that isn't asked.

    Ha, I liked mm01fan's answer....that was good!!

But yeah, it's to warm the tires and to get rid of all the debris on them.
