Moving to the UK and bringing pets?

This question is for people who currently live in the U.K. particularly England. I'm moving to England in January of next year and I own two red ear sliders (turtles). Is anyone familiar with the laws governing traveling or moving to the UK with domesticated reptiles? I've searched many sites but just about all of them refer to "pets" as being just dogs, cats and ferrets. Thanks.

You will need an expert license and an import license. You will need to inform the airline of what you’re transporting. You will need to find out what is the best way to transport them and then you should be ok.

    Or just click here http://www.fws.gov/international/appendix_III/turt...

it should be ok, as long as you can get an airline to agree to transporting them, as long as you can prove they are pets, and not terrapins you have collected with the intention of selling or releasing them over here there shouldnt be any problem. its hard for turtles to collect any diseases or pass them on when they are kept in a closed environment like reptiles are. thats wy most leglislations are in regards to dogs, and cats, which do get out and into things normally and can easily recieve and transmit disease, and ferrets which are known for possibly carrying rabies, this is why they are also included

my suggestion would be to contact the officials at your end and see what they say, they will be able to tell you and possibly give you contact details for who you need over here.

maybe contact defra, ("department for the environment, food and rural affairs") http://www.defra.gov.uk/

there would probably be someone there who could help or advise. with them not being a protected species under cities though, im guessing you will get the thumbs up :)

hope it works out and you get the info you are after :)

you need to contact defra in the UK and they will tell you if you you can bring them into the UK or if you need any papers for them be prepared for your pets to have to go into quarantine for a period of time as some animals have to. so it might be a good idea to find out about six months before you move so you can send your pets on ahead and collect them when you finally move you may have to get a pet passport for your animal so it could be a good idea to talk to your vet and find out. good luck with your move in January, I hope you like it in England.
