Would any active member or spouse know where I can ???

I am a Navy wife and my better half is deployed, " over there ", we do live in housing which my children have there friends but my oldest child (9yrs old) has asked if she can have a pen pal. I thought that it might be nice for her to have one that is also a military child who is dealing with a deployed daddy or mommy. That way she has an outlet and someone her around her age to relate to. Mommies sometimes are apparently not cool or are just to old to understand , so she says. Anyhow, how would I go about finding her one ? I am stumped. Please any advice????

Update:

...again we are Navy and her daddy is in the desert on foot not aboard ship so locally, there aren't any kiddies who are literally going through the same thing, there is a difference between the two, and locally she wouldn't get to talk or find out info about another place. Locally it would not be a pen pal now would it!!! Thanks for you reply anyways.

well I have a couple ideas:

    1. go to Yahoo groups (or MSN or something like that) and search military moms or spouses or kids, brats, etc. Join a few groups and ask about this in the group. Here might be a few groups that might be of interest:

    http://groups.yahoo.com/group/sgtmomsgroup/

    http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Military-Moms/

    http://groups.yahoo.com/group/militarymamas/

    http://groups.yahoo.com/group/HomeschoolMilitary/

    http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Military_Spouses/

    http://groups.yahoo.com/group/militarywivessupport...

    http://groups.yahoo.com/group/militarywives2/

    http://www.militaryspousesupport.net/

    2. You might be able to search girl troops also and see if they would like a penpal. Girl Scouts are always looking for new penpals and learning about other girls. Though you might not get a girl whose dad is deployed though.

    3. I search military pen pal and found these:

http://groups.yahoo.com/search?query=military+pen+... . You might be able to find a group in there.

    4. Email me and I might have another option for you. I have a 9 year old daughter who would be interested or I can probably give you the name of other girls.

We are army though so hope that doesn't matter.

    Take care and good luck.

Other parents where your husband is located would be a good resource. There should be some there with him that aren't just from his unit, that could provide some geographic separation for pen pals. If my son were a couple of years older I would tell you that your daughter could write to him, he's 6, but he is very smart and has very good penmanship. His dad leaves Tuesday for Iraq, his 4th deployment. Let me know if you'd like to try it! We're in NC.

http://www.militarymoms.net/ this site might be able to help. also you can go through stars and stripes and click on their link as to how to support our troops, it also has links like the one above. i want to thank your hubby for his sacrifice but also yours and your kids, people don't realize just how difficult it is on the families. i am the mother of two son's in the army so i understand a little of what you must deal with. good luck and i hope this might help you.

in case you and your better half quickly separated: He/She gets the BAH - II with dependents non locality pay. while you're a E-5 and below (and on occasion E-6), if there is barracks area available, you may could visit the barracks.

Get your husband to talk to the people that he is deployed with. Im sure several of them have daughters your childs age!

I think its a great idea!

Why don't you see about finding her one locally?
