Do you think city wide smoking bans are fair?
If smokers are required to smoke in designated smoking areas, why is it necessary to go smoke free? If it is a health concern, then what about the grossly obese people in the world. Obesity is as much a health risk as smoking so why not ban fatty foods?

I think it should be up to the owner of the restaurant or bar to decide if they want to allow smoking in their business.

Because public smoking affects the health of not only the smoker but anyone in his or her general vicinity. You cannot compare public smoking to grossly obese people- their eating habits (physically speaking) affect only them, and there comes personal responsibility. However, when you have a smoker who is puffing in public around other people, they're exposed to second hand smoke. What is 'unfair' is the health risks people who have made the conscious decision NOT to smoke face just by being around these people. Given this I can't see why anyone could argue that their not being able to smoke in public is 'unfair'.

Wrong to the one above me. Obesity does hurt other people because they help drive up the costs of Health Care, that WE all have to pay. I agree with you. I can see public work places, hospitals, etc.... but, we should be allowed to have a smoke in the bar or at a casino.

hey i agree, i dont even smoke. I went to an amusement park that is farely big, they had 10 smoking sections that were about 5 feet wide(i was with a person that smokes) its like it makes no difference if people smoke in public, if they are being considerate of others. making sure theres not kids around or its blowing in youre face. there banning cigarettes in public places but making alcohol available in gas stations. nice this is why i love this world.

Becuase obese people who gorge themselves with fatty foods only hurt their own health. Smokers expose others to their second hand smoke.

Banning smoking is fair.
I'll stop bagging on smokers when there stop being piles of butts at every freeway offramp. Cigarettes are, all too often, in the hands of irresponsible gits.
Improve your life -- quit smoking.
