Blu Ray vs HDDVD question.?
So, the numbers are in and Blu-ray is outselling HDDVD hands down.
The other day Paramount and Dreamworks announced that they would only support HDDVD (except for Spielberg movies, his will release on both formats)
Given the numbers, this decision does not seem to make sense, and some are even accusing the studio of taking bribes or payoffs in exchange for exclusivity to HDDVD.
What do you think about this?
If the accusations are true, than how could any bribe or payoff be more lucrative than selling your movies on the most popular format?
Most are calling BluRay the winner of the format wars. do you agree or disagree?

I'll try and keep this short.
Paramount/Dreamworks and Dreamworks Animation (separate companies) don't make much money on Blu Ray discs. Most of their profit still come from DVD. If they took a pay-off, it's because they got more money then they'd expect to make otherwise on Blu Ray. Simple economics.
The big problem in all this is that Blu Ray and HD DVD combined still account for a very small amount of the marketplace. Something like 1 %. While Blu Ray has been winning, so few people are buying that anything can happen. And that's why claims of one format winning by anyone are premature. Blu Ray hasn't won jack. It's leading in the polls after 1% of the precincts are in. But there's still a whole mess of people left to decide.
I suspect both formats survive and neither beats the other. The eventual result will likely be dual format players (which already do exist) for everyone.

You have to realize a few things though. Sony owns tons of movie studios, this is why their sales are so great. None of Sony's movies will be on HDDVD. Sony also PRINTS many more Blu-Ray discs, in which they count as SOLD because the stores that they've sent them to have already paid for them. It's called inventory. Now, HDDVD sales are only about 300,000 less than BD. Neither is doing well, however. Regular ol' DVD is still stomping both and will for years to come. There is really no advantage of having HDDVD or BD, it's all about what format you want to spend more for. BD is more expensive for the equipment, but the payoff is that there are so many movies available.
One last thing, EVERY SINGLE NEW FORMAT that Sony has invented has failed in a consumer market. BETA, Mini-Disc, UMD, etc.

Definatly, Blu-Ray will win. HD-DVD just isn't as, new? Blu-Ray is bigger and is already used for game's. Blu-Ray is also the cheapest (PlayStation 3).
