school violence?

is it a bad as the media paints it or is it just a load so teachers have another excuse not to teach?

Update:

It seems that teachers are quick to blame the district, the boards and even parents for their own inability to teach. Maybe the "violence" is a direct result of the student wishing for an actual education and not another "DARE" or "abstinence" lesson.

I think it all depends on the school you go to. At my school violence is not a problem, yes kids disrespect teachers (which annoys me to no end), but i have never seen a violent act in my school

When I took over the behavior program (grades 3&4) in my system 12 years ago we had a hand full of students. Now we have an ever growing population and have needed to expand, grades K-2 are now serviced also. My programs handle the most aggressive students in our system. These aren't kids who simply pout in class or won't complete their work. One is with me for kicking a teacher in the mouth and breaking her front teeth, another for attempting to stab a teacher, another for consistently hurting other students, and so on and so on.

Yes, school violence is getting worse. As for teachers, thank god they continue to return to their classes each day and try their best to get kids on the right path. By the way, what are these excuses for not teaching? You ask if we use school violence as "another excuse" what are the others? Or are you just an arm chair teacher who doesn't have a clue what's it like in classroom?

  • I guess it depends on where you are & what school you are in , I went to a school , here in NJ , where a girl wanted to beat the mess out of me because her b-friend talked to me , I ended

up changing schools because she would follow me everywhere in school !

so yes, I belive it can be as bad as they make it out to be .

I think it will be really hard to find out the truth, because people don't usually the truth.
