My old gateway beeps randomly.?

the two little lights sounds like its your Internet modem card.

Its possible that your system just finished doing an automatic update and with some updates it requires a Re-boot. If that is the only time it's done that, at least the first time you noticed, there probably is nothing to worry about.

You might want to update your antivirus and spyware software then run those programs just to be on the safe side.

Also, a good cleaning couldnt do any harm. Get yourself a can of condensed Air - used for electrical systems.

Open up your PC and spray out all of the fans and heat sinks. Power Supply, Case Fan, CPU & anyother fan you can find.

if the lights on the LAN or Ethernet card are blinking as fast as the beeps, then its possible that it has to do with information being transfered through that port. It doesnt have to be information from the internet, it could be the two computers talking back to each other since you said you have them connected, i'll assume thru the ethernet card.

Try disconnecting the PC thats acting up and operate it on it's own. If that fixes the problem, then chances are there was a compatability issue betweent the two pc's.

1. Remove cable to other PC - if it works fine, thats your problem.

2. Check your PC Hard Drive for bad sectors

3. Check operating temp of CPU

Could u go into a little more detail plz (like whats it doing before it starts to beep.)....and more than likely the lights on the back are linked to your LAN or Ethernet ...is there a opening for a plug right beside these lights?

And these beeps are from your Motherboard AKA:beep codes for troubleshooting.. count the beeps ..if constant beep

then shutdown sounds like 1 of 3 things

1.overheating ..make sure heat sink on CPU is clean and free of obstructions,also make sure fan is working properly and clean

2.Powersupply...May just be going bad....also make sure free from dust ...this could also cause overheating of the Power supply.again make sure fan is working properly.....

3.hardware malfunction

EX: Ram, Processor, Video or sound card
