I've had it for a year and a half. It was put in 6 weeks after my son was born, and a side effect of it is no periods, so I haven't had one of those in over two years now. It's kinda nice, but it makes me nervous, so I've been taking pregnancy tests every other month since it went in. Every single one has been negative, of course, but I still worry about it anyway.
I have endometriosis, which caused very painful cramps, and I thought that since my periods didn't come back, that wouldn't come back either, but it has. I'm still having the bad cramps, and there's nothing at all that can be done about it. But if your periods were normal to begin with, I very seriously doubt you would experience that problem.
I don't know how your husband would feel about this, but my husband has mentioned to me that he can actually feel it during sex. I don't think it bothers him, but it bothers me a little.
It's expensive to have inserted, but seeing as how it can stay in for up to 5 years, I added up 5 years worth of the pill, and the pill was almost twice as much. And my insurance ended up covering the cost, so yours might take care of some of it, too. I didn't think it would, since they only covered part of the pill.
I like the fact that your fertility is supposed to return right away upon removal, because I definately want to have at least one more child.
Overall, I'm glad I decided on it, because it's easier than the pill, condoms, or any other method, more effective, and has few side effects.

I've had Mirena for almost 3 yrs(will be that long come next month) and I'm not too wild about it.
I've been experiencing depression, frequent vaginitis(ever since I got it-didn't find out it was the Mirena causing it until recently), having trouble losing my belly weight since having my last child 3 yrs ago(with previous pregnancies, my weight loss WITHOUT the Mirena was faster post partum), cramping, I no longer have a period which I don't like b/c I don't like not knowing what's going on with my body, and it can't be a good thing-that's just unnatural!
I've also heard that the string has been linked to HPV, and the Mirena IUD can cause ovarian cysts, etc. It can also perforate your uterus upon insertion or could later become embedded in your uterus, causing fertility problems. It's not worth it to me-I consider there to be more cons than pros with this thing.
I've never felt completely comfortable with having a foreign object inside of me, so I've finally decided to have it removed in a couple weeks.
If you do a google search, look for message boards where women with Mirena or former Mirena users share their experiences with it-and I realized that I was experiencing the very same things that they were! And most were not happy with it.
Do your research and you'll decide what's the right decision for you.
Good Luck to you!

Altough we havent used mirena, but we consider any birth control medicine has sideeffects, so instead ur male should use condomns of goog quality. They will work that...
He will find some difficulty initially but will feel ok, after using 2-3 times.
