No, it's not as important. It is fairly important, in that we would get days off school/work and so on, and families would get together, but I think it's quite overshadowed by Christmas (many Christmas decorations are even already up by Thanksgiving because people are so excited!).
I think the reason Christmas is much more popular is because of the gift-giving. There is no gift-giving custom for Thanksgiving, you are simply supposed to be thankful.
Thanksgiving is held on the fourth Thursday of November.
The native Americans and pilgrims basically became friends (at the time at least, and at least these two groups of people...) and the native Americans gave many foods, such as corn, to the pilgrims. They had a big feast together to thank God for their alliance, the harvest, and for all of the other blessings in their lives.
As for what we would do, we would have as many family members as possible get together at one of our houses, and we would bake a turkey stuffed with stuffing, and also have mashed potato, cranberry sauce, and pumpkin pie, traditionally. These were all foods from the native Americans. Also we sometimes decorate the table with a cornucopia to represent a bountiful harvest.

For me it's not as important as celebrating the birth of my Lord. No, present are given at Thanksgiving. Mostly it's just a day when the whole family gets together and eats great food. We talk about all the things that where thankful for. It's on the third Thursday of November so the date changes. It is a celebration of how the Indians help the settlers. Without the Indians the settlers would have starved that first winter.

Thanksgiving was the beginning of the end for the Native Americans, a terrible event in some folks eyes, including mine.
Having said that it has become over the years a celebration of the harvest. Many cultures throughout the world have a similar Fall celebration. Ours is really no different, it just happens to coincide with a significant event in our countries history. It was started by the first pilgrims to celebrate making it through their first year in America.
It is normally celebrated on the third Thursday of November, I think. It isn't as an important as Christmas is to Americans, some will say Thanksgiving is only to celebrate the beginning of the Christmas shopping season....LOL

Thanksgiving is the 3rd Thursday in November. (whatever day that falls on).
we don't give gifts, we make a large meal with family and friends.
It's to mark the day when Pilgrims and Indians got together for a huge and peaceful meal. each group brought there own food to share with everyone.
I never heard of a peace treaty at that time (they were british, not Americans. just so you know)

Thanksgiving is not a time of gift giving. It's a time of gathering together with family and friends to celebrate and give thanks for all the blessings we have. It's also a time for relaxation and eating too much. It is not a religious holiday like Christmas. (Don't let all the sales and marketing people out there hear about the no gift thing. They might take it as an opportunity to commercialize the heck out of Thanksgiving like they have Christmas!)

Thanksgiving is VERY important and not because of days off of work/school, or anything like that. It is just as important as Christmas. It is a time to celebrate with your family and close friends. A time to give thanks for what we have (ie freedom, family etc).
We do not normally exchange gifts during this celebration, but exchange gratitude for having family so close and to be able to do it in a happy setting. It is also about the pumpkin pie, the turkey, gravy drippings and cranberry sauce. I can only hope that one day you can take part in it to understand.

Thanksgiving is about giving thanks for what you have, not for getting more. There was no peace treaty signed, so I don't know where you are getting your information from.
Thanksgiving, or Thanksgiving Day, is an annual one-day holiday to give thanks at the conclusion of the harvest season. The United States celebrates Thanksgiving on the fourth Thursday of November.
The early settlers of Plymouth Colony in Massachusetts were particularly grateful to Squanto, the Native American who taught them how to catch eel, grow corn and who served as their native interpreter (as Squanto had learned English as a slave in Europe). Without Squanto's assistance, the settlers might not have survived in the New World.
The Plymouth settlers (who came to be called "Pilgrims") set apart a holiday immediately after their first harvest in 1621, when they held an autumn celebration of food, feasting, and praising God. The Native American chiefs Massassoit, Squanto and Samoset joined in the celebration with ninety of their men in the three-day event.

No. Not so much. It's about getting together as a Family and eating Turkey, and Cranberry sauce. It's really a tribute to America's agriculturalism, which is what made America so powerful in the beginning. It also pays hommage to the Indians who gave us food when we were cold, who we later destroyed, and shipped off to Oklahoma.

Women cook. Men watch football. Women turn off TV. Men migrate to table and sit. We pray, say thanks God. We eat. Men leave table. Then watch more football. Women clean up mess. Kids scream and run through the house from the sugar high from all the desserts. Dog eats turkey carcass............Happy Thanksgiving

Just another American tradition of buying a lot of stuff and then throwing most of it away later.
The Football usually sucks too.
