How does China's military measure up with America's?

China has the largest Army and Air force in the world. With that said is is outdated. They sold a number of tanks to Iraq and found out that their armor could not stand up to one hit from an American tank, while one American tank in Desert Storm took four hits and kept going.

They have learned lessons from watching the Iraq War and are modernizing their equipment.

The US is far ahead of China. One thing China lacks in long range logistical support. The US could conduct long term operations of the Chinese coast, but the could not do the same. They would run out of fuel, food, and ammo in a short time. Their military is set up to go after Taiwan and defend itself, they have to reach beyond that if you exclude ICBM.

China could easily defend itself from a US non-nuclear invasion simply because they have the worlds largest military and especially there massive air force. People say that their airforce is out dated, but does it really matter if the US jet flies twice as fast, a missile from 3 miles out will still find its target most of the time, no matter how it was shot. China's ground forces are still something to be feared, not only because they have a massive army, but also because they know how to get innovative as seen in the Korean war, where for a good portion of the war, they managed to push the technologically advanced UN forces back by using advanced inflitration tactics. The terrain in china isnt exactly friendly to tanks, so in that sense they are rather useless when they are confined to roads that can easily be ambushed or mined. Chinas navy is its only main flaw, since the operate mainly a defensive navy which in open ocean combat would be cannon fodder against the US fleets, but if the US were to try to attack, they would have to contend with rougly 2300 aircraft would simply use fire and forget tactics using anti ship missiles that would easily overwhelm any type of anti-missile system.

Yes we could meet the challenge. America has been out-numbered in every war we've fought. China has no navy to speak of. If America put an economic embargo on China and froze Chinese assets in America, China would be paralyzed.

Then we could deal with them militarily if needed.

The Chinese have the advantage in two ways.

Firstly there are many more of them and therefore they can dominate a battlefield by sheer force of numbers.

Secondly their miltary has demostrated a lower value on human life than wester armies so as shown in the Korean war they will just use human waves of soldiers to overwhelm a target regardless of loss of life.

yes!they are a real threath specially that they are working to close with russia,iran and more.one of the issue of the usa,it is to show their weapons while china never use to,if you remember in two times,the chinese had showed their thechnology,one of them caught an spy plane from the usa(i think it was like 2 years ago),the other was when they were crossing and the usa did not detect their submarine,so you have an idea,the mentality of the asian is different,yet today when the world is thinking that they are open to show everything about them,that is wrong!they have special areas for the foreigners,and they control the media,everything.

They have alot more manpower, but the US has the technology to counter it.

The US can wage a sustained conventional war against the Chinese in China, China cannot do the same against the US.

They are going to overwhelm us simply by the numbers alone! The Chinese nation has over one billion to select from. They have a standing army of over one million troops! They are going to be the first to actually land a man on the moon! After all the Chinese did invent the rocket so it's just fitting that they be the ones!
