USAA car insurance vs. Geico?
My husband is in the army, and he has been using USAA car insurance, and I have been using Geico. I am putting them both on one plan, and Geico is $300 cheaper a year than USAA. But does anyone have any experience of which one is better?
He really wants to keep USAA, but I want to save $$ with Geico. I'm just mostly wondering if USAA is worth the extra money.
Any help would be appreicated!
Thanks! :)

We have had Geico our entire military career (except for while in Japan) and have never had anything other than top notch service from them. I will admit we have only had two accidents in that time though. I have several friends who have had USAA and really liked them until they had their first accident. While USAA was helpful and did all it should, thier rates immediately went up and this was over minor accidents. A friend who just had a major accident has been told USAA may drop her completely because of it. My advice is to choose the company you have had the most exeperience working with in claims situations and that did the best job of it.

I find it hard to believe that Geico is cheaper because for me USAA was a lot cheaper. I guess it depends on your situation, I have heard of others saying Geico is cheaper. I think you are better off going with USAA, its a lot more military friendly. Their customer service is also excellent, and if you gave an accident the process is so smooth. They also have a great Checking account, savings, home insurance, etc.. It is so much easier to have it all with one company, specially when it come to making payments. USAA savings also gives you the highest interest rate compare to other banks, and their checking and credit cards have reward points. Plus every year USAA sends a certain money percentage , when they meet their quota. Also when your husband is deployed he can access USAA easier for everything. I use to have Geico and banked with Bank of America, but ever since I switch to USAA (3 years ago) I have been so much happier.

i agree with others i find it hard to belive that geico is cheaper i would go with usaa they offer many more insurance benifits than geico and they are international especially for military families on the move i pay 70a month for 2 cars in germany and i am under the age of 25 i really prefer usaa compared to any insurance company for you two you may have factors like tickets or wrecks that cause it to be higher

I've got USAA. I have a personal beef with GEICO. Got out of military in 1985 Jacksonville, Florida. Tried to get auto insurance with them. They asked me if I was in the NAVY. (Jacksonville is a Navy town, I served in the Marine Corps.) When I said I had just gotten out of the Marines, they said I wasn't qualified because I was not in the military. The fact that I was a veteran had nothing to do with it. So they were targeting a niche back in the day, now any joe blow with a job can get insurance with them and they want everyone's money now. Didn't want me back then, now they want me? I have a deep memory.

USAA in all aspects is the best insurance company, they have never denied any claim I have made, and that was through auto, home, and/or home warranty. They even covered something after the fact (meaning we had the work done and USAA paid us the money back after we got a policy with them).
They were on the ball for my accidents (2), the first they fought some woman who said I backed into her in a parking lot (they won for me), the second I blew a tire and they were there; towing the car, getting me vouchers for medical, giving me a rental, going over every aspect of what they would do for me and the time frame they would accomplish it.
I've known other companies to not offer half of what USAA does and to cancel people for the smallest and stupidest reasons.
Compare them, you'll find that USAA offers far more.

My husbands work offered health ins and when he called another co. blue cross blue shield that offered the same plan it was 100 cheaper so shopping around is a great idea, sometimes the 1st available is conveinient but not always the best, Geico is good ins and so is AIG American Ins group for auto insurance, they had the World Trade Center covered and the # for them is 1 800 241 1188 if you would like to call them for a quote and they may offer a military discount to you as well, good luck and take care!

I have GEICO and have never had a problem with them. It's always been cheaper for us whenever we've checked and they've always covered claims in a quick and professional manner. But make sure you're comparing apples to apples. Make sure the coverages and limits are all exactly the same or you may find you're paying less because you're getting less coverage.

i have had both company's and I love USAA My wife recked our car when we had geico and it wound up costing us more to get the car fixed than it should have. and our premium went up even though it was the other drivers fault. i have had USAA for 5 years and in the last year our van has been in tree incidents. Non of them our fault and USAA paid to fix our van twice and collected from the other person the other time, not once has our premium went up in fact it has gone down $150. this year. It will decrease in time and you can raise you deductible to lower the payments if you are not able to pay a higher cost a year. Before we got or Van my wife let a lady at work move her car and she backed in to a guy with a beat up truck. He tried to say she caused a lot of damage and wanted us to pay. the adjuster came out and looked and took pictures and made an easement and gave him a check for $200 the cost to have his bumper replaced and told him to get bent for the rest. they stand behind there name and you not the All mighty Dollar.

USAA will get cheaper the higher the rank your husband gets and the longer that you are with them. I have been with them for over 15years (my mom was an officer and I got the benifits because of her) then my husband joioned - things were cheaper under my name vs. if we put things on his USAA account. I do everything with them, auto, renters, banking (I have 4 checking about and 3 savings) credit card (they give you 4% instead of the 6% under the soldiers and sailors act - and when you get back from deployment they give you the interest back from while you were gone), I have bought some very nice things from them as well at great prices. I can always talk to someone in english, they inderstand military very well and know all the accranims(sp?) With my moms house she has her morgage and everything with them - they have covered everything that has happend with her house (including flooding and cleanup - without question) Geico will probably ask for military papers to prove change in rank, status, or deployment, USAA doesn't - they take your word for it

Truthfully, State Farm is about 30% cheaper than either USAA or Geico.
The thing USAA and GEICO they have going for them, is if you get stationed in germany, they still cover you.
But, most large insurance companies, have programs, that allow you to put your insurance on hold, while you are stationed overseas, and then pick up coverage again, when you get back.
