How to update USB to 2.0 on Computer?

I have a Compac presario with no available slots for upgrade on USBs. They are soldered to motherboard. It does have Windows Xp, but it was a ME. In device manager, it does not have any enhanced USB, so I'm assumng it's 1.1. We bought a new film scanner and it ONLY works with 2.0 and XP, so buying new CPU probably would do nothing for us, because of Vista. Never had any problems with other plug & plays. An external drive might do it, but will not run any faster than it does now, but at least the driver would be recognized, right? Then again we are talking spending more money (yuk). Any suggestions?

You cannot. USB is hard-coded to the speed that it is at. Your best bet would be to install a USB 2.0 hub card. These are not terribly expensive.

    Example card:

If you don't have any slots available, then you are sore out of luck. Sorry.
