If you get a laceration in the mouth, does it form a scab like it does on skin?

If there is a hard patch on the gums, could it be a scab from a cut made by a bone or other hard food? A scab on the skin softens it it gets wet, so how does it work in the mouth?

Scabs in the mouth are usually light colored. The patch on your gums may or may not be due to injury - might be a good idea to see your dentist or doctor if it doesn't clear up soon. Oral cancers also cause lesions in the mouth, so you'll want to make sure it's not anything bad.
