Alternatives to Y! Bookmarks while they take a long vacation?
It appears that Y! Bookmarks is "undergoing site maintenance from 1-August-2011 to 31-October-2011. During that time, you will not be able to add new bookmarks. You will, however, still be able to view your bookmarks during this time. Sorry for the inconvenience." As a feature that I use every day, can you suggest alternatives? Not wanting to sell my soul to Google or Facebook, preferably something independent. Just don't get me started on the sheer madness of taking Three Months to perform 'maintenance'!
2 AnswersYahoo Bookmarks10 years agoMusic software for performance: Where can I find what I need to control backing?
Playing guitar with some wav file accompaniments, I want software that does the following:
Plays each section of the backing file, e.g. intro, verse 1, chorus, verse 2 etc etc., and gives me the option to loop the section until I tell it to flow on to the next section. Ideally I could define the default for each section (loop or continue) but have the ability to change that while playing that section with a keypress (or pedal preferably).
So the workflow would be typically: Start the backing and play straight through each section up to the solo, which is set to loop. Improvise solo, and on the last phrase, press the control to change backing from 'loop' to 'continue' - so that after the end of that repeat of the solo backing, the rest of the song plays. Still with me? Good!
Splitting the wav into sections first is ok, or putting markers in like Audacity. Freeware is favourite, and can run it on Win, or Linux. I've been searching for some time for anything that will let me do this simple function. Ideas welcome.
1 AnswerOther - Music1 decade agoIs there a way to stream music when in IM so we both hear the same?
I want to be able to share tracks in Y! messenger or MSN style IM so that my contact hears the same as I do. Y! "share music" option is a low quality feed working on voice call - I want a listening quality stream (say 96k) without a voice call. Any ideas? not looking for just a P2P share of files, but a real time "here- listen to this with me" facility.
1 AnswerComputer Networking1 decade agoWhat are the running costs for a microlight in the UK?
Once you own your average 2 axis microlight and a license, what are the recurring costs like to fly a few hours a month? I'm thinking of fuel, insurance, storage, servicing, certification or whatever is needed to keep it flying. Can you joint own one ULM among two or more pilots to keep costs down?

In SL, having found a location in the Search / Places window, how can you get an LM into the inventory for it? There is no button, drag or copy/paste doesn't do it, so how can it be done?

Good links would be helpful.

Using the standard Windows Mail in Vista, there is a command under Tools called Synchronize All. There seems to be no info on what it does or how to use it. Does it sync contacts? Messages with some other service? How do you set it up? Grateful for any clues (- but please don't guess!)
1 AnswerSoftware1 decade agoVista internet sharing - should set Public or Private?
Using an ADSL modem on a Vista PC, with Internet Connection Sharing to a LAN with another Vista PC. The LAN network is set to private and the internet connection to Public, but I cannot keep the system set that way without the LAN file sharing breaking off. Vista wants to set both networks to Private to allow file sharing. Is it safe to set the modem connection to private? Or is there a way to keep the LAN on private with Network Discovery and the modem on Public?
2 AnswersComputer Networking1 decade agoOn the Sony NWZ A815/6/8 mp3 player, how can you find out how much memory is left?
Can't find any function on the unit or in windows which will tell me how much memory I have used or have left. I can see how much it has when empty, but not whether there is room for another few albums now.
1 AnswerMusic & Music Players1 decade agoRecent problem: WinXP on PC now ejects CD tray at intervals - any fixes, diagnosis?
Have an HP desktop with two optical drives and WinXP home SP2. In the last week or so, the first drive suddenly ejects and returns for no reason, several times a day. Happens whether using it or not. If not using , it has no effect. If reading CD or playing audio, it interrupts and gives an error that the data is not there, until I eject again and return disk. Any ideas? Is there a windows update that could have caused this?
1 AnswerOther - Computers1 decade agoWhat copy protection is on BMG music CDs now in the UK?
Just got a brand new UK 2004 dated CD, which has a list of playability on various types of device, and implies that copy protection is in place. It does not say XCP so I guess the rootkit problem doesn't apply, but what the heck are they using now? My work PC will not play it. It's a BMG / RCA label.
2 AnswersOther - Computers1 decade agoWhen a stadium is used for more than one sport, how are the marking lines removed to change the pitch?
The lines must be water resistant in case it rains, so they can't be just washed off. So how are they obliterated to make, say, a rugby pitch where there was a soccer pitch before?

If there is a hard patch on the gums, could it be a scab from a cut made by a bone or other hard food? A scab on the skin softens it it gets wet, so how does it work in the mouth?
2 AnswersDental1 decade agoDifference between current models of Samsung TVs?
Looking at Samsungs LCDTVs around 26 - 32", I can see the S73 series, the R88 series, the R87 and the N73. The S73 appear to have a lower contrast than the R87/88s, but the N73 seems to be an expensive, up market box. The S has the speakers at the side, ok - but how do they all rank for quality?

4 AnswersCleaning & Laundry1 decade agoC programming free() function - does it really not need a size argument?
When you get heap memory with malloc, you have to use a size argument. To release the memory with free(), apparently you just use the pointer. Does this really release the memory from, say, a large structure pointer, and not just the first byte?
2 AnswersProgramming & Design1 decade agoHey musos! Found any good freeware rhythm boxes for PC with built in patterns?
Looking for a PC rhythm box to play along to. Plenty of MIDI sequencers around, but I want one with some good patterns already built in for rock and funk. Seen any? If it has bass patterns as well even better.
Music1 decade agoBias marshal valve [tube] guitar amp?
Got any info on how to set the bias on a 50W Marshall valve amp using two EL34s? Also is it normal for the anodes to glow red, not just the heaters, when the amp is not being worked - ie no instrument plugged in but power and standby on?
[I am used to working on live eqt - just don't know the measurements and settings for guitar amps.]
1 AnswerMusic1 decade agoPaypal verification - can you cancel your direct debit afterwards?
I don't like the idea of leaving an open DD for Paypal when my account is verified. Can you in the UK: 1) Cancel it after verification without infringing any conditions, and 2) set your account to use only your credit card after you have verified? Or does it default to your bank account and have to be reset for each transaction?
