Religious Equality. Why do news stories concerning alternative religions get little media coverage?

I can't say I am mad, but I am frustrated. There have been several Pagan and Wiccan related news stories that concern religious equality and Yahoo News and most National news medias fail to carry any word about them. Do they think that there is no interest in these stories or are they afraid that the Main Stream religions will be upset.

Back in March there was a story about the Veterans Administration being forced to adopt the Pagan and Wiccan symbol of faith for Pagan and Wiccan soldiers.

This week the wife of one Pagan soldier was not invited to meet with the President when he met with the families of fallen soldiers in Nevada.

Update:

I was hit with my first violation and deletion of a question. Let me say that if this question gets deleted that I might consider this is a act discrimination against me and all our of the alternative religions who visit here.

Update 2:

Wanoc, they world needs more fringe!

Update 3:

Mogakai, I'm not sure I understand your statement. There are several million Pagan and alternative religious people in just this Country (USA) Many don't get involved with anything political and they keep their identities from being made public in case of religious retributions.

Update 4:

Nightwind, you may live in Nevada and there was a lot of coverage there. But none of the three major media channels carried anything about it. I researched it.

Update 5:

yahweh_is_the_lord, Bush and his Religious Czar James Towey have made some very public and very discrimation statements about Pagans and Wiccans. Why did that one peticular person get "slighted" among all the people who were invited via phone? I think that the thought of some controversy between the other guests and Mrs. Stewart may have something to do with it. Or that Bush would rather talk to Mrs. Stewart on the phone so he didn't have to face her.

To answer your question, it is the same reason why they portray Christianity( especially Catholics) in a biased and unfair manner. The news media is not religion friendly, be it traditional religion or not.The media always seems to portray religion as a bad thing which only cause bad things. As a Christian, i am offended by the anti-Christian sentiment in the news, but I am also offended by the negative image of Muslims and New-Age religions. As I have good friends who practice this religions, it is very personal when the NEWS decides to make huge generalization or pretty obvious lies as fact. This leads me to believe that other religions that I do not know much about are not as they seem on the news.

Religion, in its many different forms, is such an important part of many peoples lives that the media really should portray it more accurately. That story about the wife of the Pagan soldier really pisses me off, the nerve of Bush.

right that could be an excellent one. The CDC became robbed and reportedly lacking approximately 22 million in desktops and undisclosed kit only till now the massive TB scare. remember that one? The CDC tale became hushed up. It did no longer even make television only one headline on Yahoo information and it became claimed to be an interior job. It became additionally on no account disclosed in the event that they found out who did it or what they took. What appropriate to the "gut feeling" Michael Chertoff had? What ever exceeded off to that? Oh yeah what appropriate to the Operation Noble Eagle troops that have been deployed to Washington DC. That became on no account on the information. It basically got here out in a newspaper. That became additionally appropriate to the comparable time the nukes went flying over the U. S..

    1) for the same reason that there is no pagan/wiccan tv channel, unlike say, the fortune 500 show. The main stream religion is christianity in america, so that is what main stream television will cover, that and christians tend to do stupid **** since there are so many intolerant christians out there.

This is true, it seems that the only time Pagans and Wiccans get any coverage is around Halloween when suddenly there's a spate of "human interest" stories about "real witches" as if it's such an oddity.

Actually, I saw both those stories on Yahoo and read the first one in the NY Times.

But I agree that there is not much coverage of non-Christian stories and WAY too much coverage of Christianity. You can barely read a single story without there being a mention of God in it.

The media goes where they think the news is. Nobody cares about the millions of Christians in church on Sunday, but if even one shows up outside an abortion clinic it's news.

The media assumes we're all fringe. I'm fringe, but many pagans and wiccans are normal, everyday people.

Sorry, but I don't see those as really being "mainstream news worthy" stories.

Besides, your religious symbol has now been added to the VA's list.

The President, personally called and agologized to the widow, for the oversight of her not getting invited to meet him.

Probably, to avoid some conflict between the religions.

Source(s): Reading of heart of people who write those news stories.
