Parents of teenagers, if you could travel back in time?

and meet yourself when you were 16, what parental advice would you give your 16 year old self? I would have told my 16 year old self that sex does not make you cool or sophisticated, neither do drugs, you will need Algebra, bad boys are not worth the heartache, and big hair is going to be such a fashion faux pas.

Update:

Julie, I don't have a lot of spare time, just can't sleep because I had coffee too late in the afternoon trying to keep up with my kids. It's good your are evaluating your life at a young age.

Sherry: the 80s so totally rocked!

Trust in yourself more, and cultivate your own self confidence. 'Life' will fill in most of the gaps, as long as you believe in yourself first.

Beyond that.. a highschool education is only the first step. Study hard to give yourself an advantage off the bat - but remember that any 'social' aspects you gain in school usually doesn't translate very far after graduation.

The highschool jock ends up bagging groceries, and the cheerleaders end up single with six kids.

The geeks end up CEO's and the theatre nerds end up movie stars...

... or not, but you get the point. Confidence AND good grades equal a good place to become successful.

OK. I'm 39. I didn't do drugs in the 80's and I didn't have sex until I was 17. (I know. BIG difference! LOL) I have NEVER needed Algebra, bad boys are fun for awhile, but not worth the headache and I still wish big hair was in because I have thick, curly hair and I was HOT in the 80's! I WAS "Lady of the 80's"! LOL

You want a central authority issued ID. If you could have a DL, that are meant to be adequate. For worldwide journey you might want a passport (and Visa, relying on vacation spot) and it's advocated that you've got a notorized consent out of your father and mother.

I'm still in high school, but I wish I could go back to the 6th grade and tell my 6th grade self to pay more attention in math, and for my 3rd grade self to pay more attention to spelling and multiplication. Because I didn't do good in 6th grade math, i didn't get put in 7th grade advanced math, and because I didn't get that I didn't get 8th grade algebra, an because of that I got put in algebra in the 9th grade instead of algebra 2. So now I'm geometry with only one year of algebra, its hard for me to keep up.

This is effecting my senior classes, something I did when I was in the 6h grade!!

you must have alot of spare time to come up with something like this...

Im only 14 so its hard to awnser that but I do no there are some things that I would have already wanted to go back in time and change in my adolescence... like not to give out my heart to guys, dont say or act stupid like I did that one time, listen to my parents more, have a better fashion sence and look.

Being smart IS COOL...my mistake was to take the dumb classes so I didn't have to do anything. College sure did suck for me!
