I have a black bump on my skin, its elevated and painful, it was red now its black its near my hip. what is it

Well it could be a blood blister, but since it has gotten bigger I would go and see the doctor.

It sounds like an ingrown hair, and the follicle has become infected and caused it to inflame. The black you can see is probably the hair. However, this could be something completely different as it's difficult to give an idea over the internet. Book an appointment with your GP, it's most probably something treatable. Please DO NOT try to squeeze/pop it, as this will make the sore worse and spread the infection. This may be a clogged sebaceous gland, or a Bartholin's cyst (a small growth just inside the opening of the vagina.) These are small fluid-filled sacs that are usually harmless. Your best bet would be to see a doctor or dermatologist ASAP. They'll be able to diagnose you a lot better than any of us here on on yahoo answers. I'm sure it could be a bite of some sort, but typically a raised, painful bump that changes colors and becomes larger requires medical attention as it could indicate skin cancer.

I busted a blood vessel in my fingertip once that resembles what you described. I don't know, though, it sounds a lot more serious than that. The best thing to do when it looks this bad is to see a doctor.
