Summer wedding ideas?
We are having an outdoor ceremony next July and need ideas to help keep the guests cool... we already thought of hand held fans for the seats or parisols but does anyone have any other creative suggestions?

This ties in with your original idea, but I've seen programs printed on the fans. That way you kinda kill 2 birds with 1 stone. What about having large pitchers of lemonade and ice tea outside so that way those who arrive early can get something to drink.

If you have a roof over something, a gazebo, a patio, etc., you can string wire from one side to another and drape fabric over it, like a wave. The air will move it and make a wave affect. This also helps circulate the air. This also works indoors and can be a sound barrier. Pick a fabric that is light weight. I saw a wedding reception once that bought fabric that was a white sheer, but had stars in the fabric, then when they had candlelight from the tables, the fabric looked like a star lite sky even though it was indoors. Just a thought.
If you can put up outside ceiling fans, that would be good. I have seen people fasten them on poles in the ground and they are up above people's heads.
The famous water sprinkler system you see at outdoor restaurants. A light mist that doesn't soak anyone but cools the air.
Plenty of ice water.
Another thought for a July wedding and if anyone in the family is in the military...display the flag. Just a thought.
Try sparklers for fun too.
I would make sure the wedding was either in the early morning or late evening...like 7 p.m.
Tiki torches for lights, or white christmas lights.

Is the reception outdoors, too?
For the ceremony, your fans and some ice cold water either in pitchers or bottles in an ice bucket are a nice touch. That should be more than enough "coolers". If you have elderly guests who cannot stand the heat, make shade for them.

Antique fans always go over nicely. You could also try finding a mister that could help keep guests cool.

we had palm hand fans that we tied our programs to with ribbon. The guests seemed to like them a lot and people asked for extras for mementos. I got them from oriental trading company for a decent price.

You can rent those misting fans, or just some nice looking fans from a event rental company. Where are you renting chairs from? Ask them for ideas too, they may have just what you are looking for.

What about a marquee? Or a structure? It would keep people cool and look great.

Everyone has good ideas, but please dont make your minister wear a black robe in that heat..
