What does "and lead us not into temptation..." mean in the "Lord's Prayer"?

This is what William MacDonald says in his commentary. I quote:

"This request may appear to contradict James 1:13, which states that God would never tempt anyone. However, God does allow His people to be tested and tried. This petition expresses a healthy distrust of one's own ability to resist temptations or to stand up under trial. It acknowledges complete dependence on the Lord for preservation."

I agree with this commentary. God did allow Job to be tested more than any other created being has been tested. I also believe and have experienced it in my own life that God knows who to send what trials to. He knows the weaknesses of each one of us. He knows how much torture or pain, for instance, that a person can bear and He will not allow more than our limitations can take. Isn't God so kind?

Indeed, notice there's leaven in the Lord's Prayer,

not to mention the catch all of the P.S. in Mt 6:15.

If you don't forgive all, neither will Law forgive you.

Teach us to pray as John taught his disciples?

Pst: John lost his head for condemning a king.

Grace neither tempts(laws) nor can be tempted(lawed).

Charity never fails is notably above forgiving one another.

The GRACE of our Lord Jesus Christ with you all. Amen.

Source(s): Global Reconciliation doesn't law impute sin to anyone.
