3 dogs 3 leads 1 me. How to walk 3 dogs at one time saftley?

Hi

I orginally just had my one little daschund cross to walk, then i rescued a dobe pup from a puppy farm (he was is v.bad health, but hes doing well now.) Then i rescued a ridgeback pup same age a week later. I love walking and being active so its no problem with the 3. Ive also had dobes and mastiffs beofre so im just to walking large dogs.

But ive never had to walk 3 at once and its really hard! Im continuely changing hands and being tripped up! Ive had them for 6weeks now the 2 large dogs and there 41/2months old.

Any ideas as i want be able todo this for much longer as the dogs get bigger. Ive tried using a chain that links two dogs to one lead but thats not workin!

Help any ideas is great as i dont want to walk them seperatly as they love playing together!

Thanks Kim

Update:

There great of the lead its just getting them the park 10mins walk each way! I do watch ceaser hes amazing i do try but when there playing while on the lead and in a ball all tangeled i get stressed. The dobe also practicly runs to the park and its hard keeping him calm and walking at a good pace and holding the other 2.

i think ill either have to live nearer a park or learn to drive so i can drive them to the park! both are expensive

Go to a pet store or order online a coupler for your dogs. http://www.pets-warehouse.com/Vpasp/shopexd.asp?id... this link is to a coupler page. You should buy one that gives the dogs enough room to walk side by side. I have actually coupled four dogs together and had one lead. You should NOT use a retractable lead with a coupler. If you need a longer lead buy a cotton braided (easier on the hands) in 10ft or 20ft leash lengths.

    Good luck,

    Robin

Please do not let your dog off the lead. There is no "age" when a dog should be off the lead and if there is 3 is most certainly not it. WHen dogs turn 3, they go from a puppy to an adult stage. Your dog is still very young and wants to play. She doesn't understand that if she runs away she will get lost. With some dogs you can just never let them off leash. You could try training her to come when she is called, and she is a golden/lab mix both of which are very intelligent so training should not be too much of an issue. But keep her on a leash for now, or let her loose in a fenced area. I really want to let my dogs off the leash as well, but they are just too psycho for that. LOL

hi i would have to agree with the coupler i have 3 dogs 2 rotties and a German short hair the two older dogs i put the split lead on and the younger dog a leash of her own the first couple minutes are kind of nuts for they all want to be the lead dog but once they figure things out it goes pretty good just get one of the split leads and try it i was struggling at first to till i went and got one of these good luck

A dog should be trained on how to eat, walk with you, not to bark, potty training and sleep on its place etc. You can teach anything to your puppy, dogs get trained easily with some good instructions. If you want some good training tips visit https://tr.im/fPf5r

If properly trained, they should also understand whistle and gesture equivalents for all the relevant commands, e.g. short whistle or finger raised sit, long whistle or flat hand lay down, and so on.

It's important that they also get gestures and whistles as voice may not be sufficient over long distances and under certain circumstances.

  • With practice, you will get into a rythym of "leash changing". Make sure you train them to stay either on one side of you, or in front of you. Mine know they are NOT to cross behind, but they can wander in front of me (but not DIRECTLY in front or I'll step on them....).

In safe areas, I simply walk them off-leash, but they are trained to stick close and come when called.
