I'm a CPS investigator, and a new father of a beautiful baby girl. In my experience, when mothers kill their babies it is alot of things put together. When a mother has a child expected, or unexpected, they go through a variety of emotions. Most of the deaths are from post partum depression, but some are from other reasons. When a woman gets pregnant her hormones go crazy. They go up and down and that is perfectly normal. When she has the baby her hormones have to go back to normal and this takes some time. It is very frustrating for a person to care for a child that cries all the time. you can change them feed them and burp them and they still cry. this frustration is so great that it is hard for a person with a stable mental status to deal with. When a mother is unstable to begin with, and then takes on the extra pressure of a child, sometimes that pushes them over the edge. I am not saying that these women or men are right in hurting their children, but these are some of the reasons why things like this happen. My baby girl likes to cry and sure i get frustrated, but i would never hurt her. I don't know if you were asking about a child or a baby, but this is the knowledge that i know dealing with mothers and fathers that beat their children everyday. Hope this helps. Have a good day.

This has happened at least 3 times in the last year where im from (ireland) and the children have been all different ages. Not just babies. In each case it seems the mothers were suicidal for a long time and when it came time to go through with it they realised that the cud not leave without their children so in their head the best thing to do was to kill their children so that they wud be together after death. Selfish I know but we dont know what goes on in other peoples heads.

  • Whenever I read stories about a mother that kills her own children, or allows her own children to be beaten, abused, and killed by a boyfriend or husband, I have to think that the mother is only concerned about her own self interests. It's as if the children are an inconvenience - not sentient human beings who have worth and value in their existence on earth. It appears to me that the mother's selfishness is more important than being the most important person in that child's life. Instead of giving love, guidance, training, a feeling of security, and bonding - she is only concerned with what she wants - whether that be money, drugs, a man, a home... whatever.

Jealousy--or vice versa. There's a true story about a 13 year old girl what was convinced her mom was in the way of her and her father building a relationship. She wanted to be impregnanted by her father so she killed her mother. I saw it on TV about 5 years ago. I forgot the name. I should look into it and tell you later.

  • It takes a SORRY mother to kill her own child. I have a baby myself I would do anythinf in the world for. How can anyone hurt something so little?

Not so 'beloved', eh, what? Mental illness in its many forms lead the people to do irresponsible acts. I do not believe this a rationale in any form, and the first charge should always be murder.

I take it you are talking about Madeleine; You don't know that for a fact. You don't know what happened.

Wait before judging and condemning someone.

Of course, parents are there to protect their children, save their lives and if necessary sacrifice their own to achieve that.

But, why not wait before judging the woman.

I am not defending her, as I feel for that poor darling just as every normal people do, but it's not going to help to hang the woman.

the mind is a strange thing , in her own mind it was most likely nessasary , evn though it wasnt for others , you can never understand why , unless you are that person , and understand the psycological situation , and the reasons which were there to justify such a crucial descion.
