why are the patriots the favorite to win it all??

what the big fuss about. i could see how they were in previous years but why this year? theyre defense is not as good as it used to be, its getting depleted and aging quickly. maroney hasnt exactly proven anything yet because hes only been in the nfl for a year and now he has to carry the bulk of the load in only in 2nd season. i love randy moss and believe he can flourish in new england but there is always the extra baggage he brings with him. him, stallworth and welker have never played with each other and you just expect them to click right off the bat? cmon...theres going to be an adjustment period between them and to tom brady. all signs pointing to a very dissapointing year.

on the contrary, youve got the jets who are starting to be the draft darlings, making very good selections. a rising defense. good special teams, good everything. pennington is healthy and lets be frank, he is damn good when he is healthy. always has been since his marshall days....

Update:

... thomas jones was an excellent pickup. they will now have that premier back theyve been lacking since curtis martin retired. he will run and run wild. jerricho cotchery and laveranues coles makes for a great dynamic combo. coles we know what he can do, cotchery will only get better. they are the best in the afc east.

Update 2:

so you see, how can they be the best when the new york jets are better than them in that division and will beat them sunday?

Update 3:

bellicheck's a good coach but so is eric mangini. after that last game the jets won i felt the bad blodd brewing between them haha.

All I have to say is I agree entirely with you. Not only because I am an avid Chargers fan but because I am entirely sick of hearing about the Pats every time I watch a football show or even a game for that matter. Sure they have Brady and Bellicheck, but they are over-rated and over-hyped. They will not go to the Super Bowl this year, nor will they win the AFC.

The Jets are not going to win the AFC East. You have the very brittle Pennington. Yes, he's good when he's healthy, but how often is he healthy? Tomas Jones is good and so is that one wide receiver you got, can't recall his name.

The Pats/Colts/Chargers are the favorites in the AFC. The Pats probably because of their receiver acquisitions because let's be honest: outside of Deion Branch, Brady never had a good receiving corps, and now her has 2 pro bowlers. Maroney has proven that he can be good and is highly underrated. The defense may be getting older. However, you must realize that last year they were using 3rd string backups for defense yet still got pretty nicely into the playoffs.

If anything you got Brady + Belichick + winning experience + receivers+ young running back + healthy team. I don't see why they won't be good. I don't know if they're going to win it all because, as much as I hate to say it, the Colts looked pretty good Thursday.

I think the other guy was right, and you're just blowing off some steam. Don't worry man. The Jets are getting better, but they're not quite on the Colts/Pats/Chargers' levels yet.

Source(s): We can agree on one thing though: whoever wins the AFC will win the Superbowl plain and simple.

Is this actually a question, or are you just a frustrated Jets fan blowing off steam? That being said, here's my answer.

The Patriots deserve to be the favorite in the division. They have the best coach, best quarterback and deeper overall talent than the Jets. As for Thomas Jones, yes he's a solid back, but let's get off the Thomas Jones is a pro bowl caliber, elite back in the league bandwagon. He will help the Jets, but he's not enough to bring the Jets from decent wild-card contender to division title/conference championship contender.

The Jets are solid and will contend for a wild card, but they are not at the level of the Patriots, Chargers and the other AFC title contenders just yet.

They're favored because much of the AFC is weak. It'll be a 3-team conference with SD, NE and Indy, with NE favored only because the Colts lost a few players, while the Pats made some MAJOR off-season acquisitions. Still, the Pats haven't been able to finish games since Weis left (17 points in the AFC Championship) and until they do, it's Indy's title to lose.

    You over analyzed this.

The public favorites are either Indy or N.E. (S.D. won' be favored with Rivers at the helm). Indy was perceived to have a weak defense and had just won it, so motivation could be low.

N.E. suffered a shocking loss in the Playoffs last year and stocked up on the free agent market. Thus public perception that the Patriots are the odds-on favorites.

Remember, the favorites aren't always the truly best teams, just what the public perceives them to be.

They have the best coach, the best QB, the best owner, and most importantly, they went to the AFC title game last season and did not lose any key players this offseason. In fact, just the opposite. They gained Moss, Thomas, Stalworth, Welker, and a few other key players.

Because they stacked their team. Everyone always jumps on the bandwagon of the team that stacks right before the season.

It is in my opinion that much of (any) sports "hype" is to boost the odds for gambling reasons!
