Like your answer, sis! LOL!
Seriously, though, you should never, ever, try to get out of a promise you've made. When you give your word, you're making a committment. Short of debilitating illness or injury, you've committed to doing whatever. So you should always make sure you can carry through with it before you agree to something.
If I'm not sure about something, I always tell people I have to check my calendar. That gives me time to decide if I want to do the favor or not, and come up with a good reason why not that isn't a lie. Sometimes people won't just accept "Sorry, I'm busy that day" without an explanation!
When you give your word, it's your bond. If you take it seriously, you will gain a good reputation as someone people can count on. I have!

Jury duty. In my line of work they generally excuse people from having to serve on a jury... but if I was called I would tell them I was a secretary, and tell my boss I told them I was a nurse and had to be on the jury anyway.... so I would get out of having to go to work.
