I need help because I have to come up with an answer for my homework

    It can be interpreted two ways:

    If he tries to fail and he succeeds in failing then he has succeeded to do what he tried.

    If he tries to fail but succeeds instead, then he has failed to do what he tried.

    He achieved what he set out to do, so he succeeded. Let's say someone offered you, a genius, $1 million to fail math, so that the other students would get the best grades. You're really motivated to get that money, so you successfully fail.

    he did both because he was the one who tried in the first place, and he succeeded in doing so...so he did 2 things. what kind of homework is that anyway

    He succeeded. It doesn't matter what the task is he was setting out to complete. If he reached his goal, it is considered success!
