How to write the equation of a line given the slope and Y-intercept?

I'm not sure how to do this so an explanation would be helpful, but the slope is -4 and the y-intercept is 2. So the answer would be nice, but if you could explain how to solve the problem that would be great :)

Update:

I think it's -4x+2...I'm actually having trouble with slope=0; y-intercept=-7

Update 2:

Yeah but I was thinking it would be y=0x-7 and zero times x doesn't equal anything. Wouldn't it just be x-7 when it's 1x since 1x=1?

    well y=mx+b so basically it would be y=-7 because 1x is the same thing as x because 2x would basically mean theres 2 x's there is the quantity of 1 x so if you put a zero there as the slope it wont exist. So....y=-7

    the simplest form for graphing is y=mx+b where b is the y intercept and m is the slope. since you have both, you can just plug it in. i dont think you can solve any further..

    if the slope was 0 and the intercept 7, it would be y=x+7

    You have to use the formula: y=m(x)+b

    You plug the slope in for "m", and the y intercept is pluged in for "b". The X just represents where it is on the x-axis, so all you have to do is plug the numbers into the equation. The answer comes out to be:

    Answer: y=-4x+2

    equation: y=m(x)+b

    Where to plug stuff in: y = slope(x) + y intercept

    It's as simple as that!

  • The way to remember this is to memorize what the parts of the equation mean...

    Y = mX+b

    m = the slope

    b = the y intercept

    You already know the y intercept and the slope! Can you write the equation now? If not, see below...

    --------------------------------------------------

    Y = -4x + 2
