What are some ways to dramatically reduce my electric bill?

I already have halogen bulbs everywhere in the house. I need to use expanding foam where all water pipes, etc come through the walls (that oughta help a lot).

Any simple suggestions?

Thanks.

no ac during summer, no heater during winter.

computer monitors take up alot of electricity too, same with tv, oven, dryers. unplug any electrical devices that you normally don't need to use like night light, some clocks in some rooms, etc.

get a volt meter and test all the appliances and electronics that you use to see which hogs alot of electricity, or write down a list of them from checking the info section of these electronics for watts.

Heating and Cooling are your biggest energy eaters, not the lighting.

    1. Raise the setting on your A/C thermostat a few degrees. A programmable thermostat is your best bet. You can set it for a higher temperature when your away (and change in winter to a lower temperature) to reduce pull-down time. It is cheaper to keep a house cool than to get it cool.

    2. Heavy drapes or curtains to stop the greenhouse effect from the sun will also reduce your cooling/heating bill.

3.Look at the efficiency of your water heater, especially if it is electric. Are the heating elements coated with hard water deposits? Can you lower the temperature and be comfortable? Insulate your hot water pipes where you have access to them. Shower fast and with your spouse if possible.

    4. In the laundry, don't wash partial loads. Wait until you have a full load to do laundry. Same with the dryer. The clothes will retain heat and assist in drying rather than heating a lot of air to dry a few items.

    5. Same with the dishwasher. Full loads only. Turn off the heated drying option.

Cut down on your use of the dryer and large appliances like the stove and air conditioners. My grandparents hang their laundry out even in the winter and they have a pretty low electric bill. Make good use of your microwave oven too, they save alot of energy.

do not leave any thing on standbye.only have one tv/computer on at a time.cuse cndles for lighting in the bath(romantic aswell)for extra warmth get thicker curtains, and cut down on the heating.use a gas cooker instead of electric(gas pre heats quicker)always turn of lights etc when leaving a room.

Turn off all the lights, go live in a cave, burn candles

or get rid of all you electrical appliances.

Unplug everything, unless it is absolutely critical, and don't use any appliances.
