Will a bad video card keep your pc from booting up?

It could, but don't assume that. Generally, if the video card is bad you'll get a POST error. Depending on the BIOS make, the audible error will have a specific beep sequence. You can Google to find that. Otherwise, if you hear no audible beep at all, most likely the fault lies with the processor (may not be seated sufficiently or may just be bad).

Booting up is vague. Do you see anything on the screen? Anything? Then its not your card. Does the PC come on at all? That is, do you here hard drives spinning up, etc.? I've never heard of a card - any card - preventing a PC from booting - however! if its a new video card in your system maybe your power supply is not large enough to handle the extra wattage load. Then yes - it wouldn't boot up.

Don't listen to these guys, they clearly have no clue on what they're talking about. I am a developer at Microsoft so I know a thing or two about computers. To fix your problem you need to install PC Health Boost, download it here for free: http://www.healthboostpc.com/

It's very light and it's the only antivirus/cleaner with a 99.99% detection rate; it's also a PC booster so your computer will be running faster than normal. Install it, hit run and problem solved. It shouldn't take you more than 5 minutes.

yes, a bad video card, poor connection and seating in the PCI-E or AGP, PCI slot can cause boot failures and in some motherboards cases beeping in a specific pattern. Read the book on the motherboard. If you suspect a video card problem you can unseat it, look at the connections and then reseat it back into its slot. Ensure that you have the correct video output enabled in your system bios as in some cases they are turned off.

    Good luck

No and you definitely have a problem in the boot up section of the operating system. Try to start it in safe mode so you can get into system restore. That should solve the problem. If it don't than reinstall the operating system.

sometimes. but not only that. the memory might be dislocated also. try removing it, clean the contact points with liquid spray electronic cleaners, then ensure proper seating when you reinstall it. do that also with your video card and other additional hardware especially those on the pciexpress.

It could, but it is more likely simply to prevent you seeing your 'desktop' on the monitor.
