Woolite - colors bleeding, leaching, and running?

For some reason, despite the fact that a goodly portion of my clothing says "Hand wash only," whenever I use woolite detergent the colors still run, and I have to drain my sink after every clothing item.

I'm using FAR less than the recommended amount of detergent, I'm very gentle, I'm washing clothes that I've washed dozens of times before (all handwash), and I'm using nothing but cold water. What's the deal? This even happens with clothing that doesn't specifically recommend handwashing, but instead recommends machine washing.

Is there another/better handwashing detergent than woolite out there? Is it the water? Do I just suck at cleaning laundry? Should I invest in a loincloth, a spear, and a one-way ticket to the rainforest?

Update:

For what it is worth:

These clothes are not just wool. These are made from fibers of all sorts.

Moreover, this happens on machine-wash clothes as well when I chose to hand-wash them.

And this happens with EVERY PIECE OF CLOTHING that I use this particular detergent on. That's why I have to change the water after every item.

first time, i' m sorry that i was late to answer your question....

second., i don't know about woolite detergent, is it only for clothes that made from wool???

my suggestion for washing clothes are:

    1. before u wash, sink your clothes into water (pure water) in 15 minutes.

2.Change the water n use new water+regular detergent.

Use the recommended combination that showed in detergent 's package cover. Sink into water+regular detergent which have combined in 10 minutes n u can wash your clothes...

    3. if your clothes said "hand wash Only", use your hand only without other tool like brush or etc

I Hope this answer can help u...

There are a couple of different reasons why manufacturers say "Hand wash only".

One is that machine washing will stretch the garment out of shape.

Another is that the article is not colorfast, and washing it with other garments will result in the other clothes being ruined.

You don't need to change detergents. You need to start buying machine-washable clothes. Duh.

Naw, there'd be NO way to remove stains in the rainforest. There is a product on the shelves that removes "extra" color that gets loose in the washer.

Be sure your detergent is a good one..not a cheap store brand. Use cold water only.

You know what.. I do not know why your cloths bleed as they do and I do not know if any of the tricks in other answers work but I do know this...... All cloths, regardless of what they are made of, where they were made or what is the recommended method of cleaning can be..... DRY CLEANED! I know it costs more.. but they will last longer, feel better and if they bleed YOU GET NEW CLOTHS FOR FREE! Good Luck!

    sort your clothes accordingly

read the proper method of care on tag or fabric

wash accordingly(items that read dry clean only-DAH).

my advice: use shampoo to wash your wool clothes. that's probably the best you can do.
