Not when they can fly all the way to Mexico, or Brazil, to hibernate,

No, actually most live much longer than that. It completely depends on the species. Typically one or two weeks. However, there are some species of butterflies without mouth parts and their only drive is to mate and lay eggs. This species is very short lived and survive for only a few days at most. Then again, there are some that live for months.

That's is NOT true...I've had the same butterfly at my FRONT DOOR for 3-4 days...it wasn't the regular butterflies that comes around here...that's why i knew it was same one!
I'm just wandering if MY Aunt sent it here for some reason?
She passes away a few years ago as my Mother too! they were sisters and she LOVED butterflies!
Think she could of been sending me a message? LOL

When I was little my brother caught a butterfly that didn't migrate south for the winter. He didn't want it to die, so my mom made an enclosure for it and we kept it all winter long. We fed it sugar water and it flew around our house. She was beautiful and we named her Gloria. We kept her that entire winter until the spring and my mom let her go one day before we got home from school. So, needless to say, they live for a long time. At least a year.

If they did die every day then we would have billions of dead butterflies laying around all over the place and that would mean they would have to be born, eat, grow, mate, lay eggs and die all in the same day? I kinda doubt it..

No. They generally have a life cycle of about two weeks. It is probably a long time to them.
