I am just wondering what people's opinion is of tearing down Yankee Stadium after the new one is built?
I am heartbroken by it. I don't know why (besides Steinbrenner's money) it can't be declared a National Landmark. They can move if they must, but I see no reason for tearing down the House that Ruth built. :(

You're absolutely right! There are certain ball parks that should be declared National Landmark just like other structures around the country. Yankee Stadium is one. Think for the tourists that would flock to the old ballpark just to see where so much baseball history was made. To stand in the very shots where Ruth, DiMaggio, Mantle, Berra and many other Yankee greats stood would be incredible.
Portions of the old Stadium could be turned into restaurants and memorabilia centers. Other parts could be turned into small cinema's where tapes and films of important Yankee games could be shown.
Yes, I like the idea.

I hear ya. When the demolished County Stadium here in Milwaukee there was a similar (though obviously not as sharp) feeling. The local broadcaster said it best here "I loved the old stadium, had a lot of good memories - kind of like my first car, but I'm glad I'm not driving it now. You'll enjoy the new stadium.
I don't know how Cubs fans will handle the inevitable move away from Wrigley Field.
I'd feel differently about Yankee Stadium if it wasn't defaced in the 1970's with the renovation. For me it's like what they've done to Lambeau Field - it's like an elderly woman with botox.

It is going to be a very sad day the day Yankee Stadium gets hit with the wrecking ball. I have VERY mixed emotions about this. I know the old Stadium is in pretty rough shape and is not compliant with ADA codes. I do like that the most recognizable and successful franchise is going to get a nice, modern ballpark with nice CLEAN bathrooms. What really stinks is the loss of almost half the bleacher seats. I love the bleachers! One of the best views of the game and the most affordable seats. All in all, I am saddened by the loss of one of the icons of baseball history, but I am also excited that the Yankees will be playing in a beautiful, modern park.

Rome, Italy never tore down the Coliseum!
But remember yankee Stadium, isn't Yankee stadioum.
The original Yankee stadium was torn down, and the present yankee Stadium was built on that site.During 1974 and 1975 the Yankees played thir home games at Shea Sradium.
So, the original "House that Ruth Built' has been long torn down.

Forget about Yankee Stadium, but what about Shea Stadium! They are going to knock it down and change the name to Citi Field. Yankee fans, youre lucky they are keeping the same name!

One word PROGRESS. Yeah old Yankee stadium has history, but there comes a time when you have to say out with old and in with the new. Plus the local unions needed a boost. You see boys and girls there is this thing called politics. Politics plays a heavier hand in this.

this is the only time u will ever hear me say something positive about the yankees (im from cleveland), but that stadium must stay. it has a lot of history. it should be used as a museum, play high school, college, or little league championships there. yanks could practice there, or give it to a minor league team. its still one of my favorite stadiums.

It does stink, but it is really just a building that is falling apart. To keep it standing after the new one is built would cost a lot of money. If they didn't keep it up, it would turn into an eyesore. All the history remains, but it is time to make more history in a new place. All good things come to an end.

Unfortunately, there is a lot of history there that makes me sympathetic towards keeping the stadium. However, every square inch of space in New York is valuable. If it were in, say, Iowa, this wouldn't be an issue, but as it is, the old stadium must go.
