"The Invasion" had a lot going for it. It had two big stars, an acclaimed director, a big time producer, and a time tested premise. The only thing missing was a script.

"The Invasion" does not follow the same story as the earlier movies. They took the premise and made a new story. The new story has only a threadbare plot, no character development, and some of the most banal dialog I have heard in recent years. At 93 minutes, there are long passages that go nowhere and do nothing for the story.

Whoever gave the green light to this production without having a decent script first should be fired.

Despite that, there are some parts that are watchable. It is just frustrating that they could not have come up with a better story and better characters.

I do want to see the DVD if it has gaps filled in. I saw the whole series when a PBS station used to regularly run the series then repeated as needed. Sadly, no one is doing that now. But, I do remember some that had missing segments. I'd very much like to see this then. It might be worth buying a DVD player for.

Does anyone realize that this is old Doctor Who? Patrick Troughton died many years ago. I met him at the convention he spoke at prior to the one he died during. This is ancient history for DW, so I'm not sure why the reviews sound as if this is something new. Am I misunderstanding your critiques? Very likely I am. You see, at one site I visit, they seem to be under the impression that DW is a new series and that Eccleston and Tarrant have been the only Doctor actors. Of course, the series was off the air a long time, and the episodes aren't aired as they should be. This would be a perfect series for Sci Fi Channel to run since they haven't had it for ages.

Just in case someone has missed this long-lived series, meet the Doctor in his series incarnations:

First Doctor, played by William Hartnell (1963–1966)

Second Doctor, played by Patrick Troughton (1966–1969)

Third Doctor, played by Jon Pertwee (1970–1974)

Fourth Doctor, played by Tom Baker (1974–1981)

Fifth Doctor, played by Peter Davison (1982–1984)

Sixth Doctor, played by Colin Baker (1984–1986)

Seventh Doctor, played by Sylvester McCoy (1987–1989, 1996)

Eighth Doctor, played by Paul McGann (1996)

Ninth Doctor, played by Christopher Eccleston (2005)

Tenth Doctor, played by David Tennant (2005–present)

Peter Cushing played him in films, and there have been others. For continuity, they generally focus on the series only though Paul McGann's Doctor receives a bow. However, most fans don't approve of the half-human bit.

My favorite Doctor is Tom Baker, who played the role longer than anyone else. I've been fortunate to meet him at a number of conventions, where I've also encountered Troughton, Sylvester McCoy and Peter Davison.

Once more, I've written waaaay too much. *SIGH*

This is off subject but if you like movies try Tsotsi. Its a movie about a S.African thug who finds an abandoned baby and the love that this little person awakens in him. Tsotsi is the most prolific movie that I personally have ever seen. I see that there is something on You Tube about it.
