Would you lower your salary expectations?

if the position will get you a foot in the door and valuable experience with a company you really want to work for? The pay is about $6/hr less than the minimum I was hoping for (and am qualified for). But there is opportunity to work overtime, the benefits are good, and there is a lot of growth potential.

Update:

Great advice everybody! I will probably take the job if offered to me. I can make up some money in overtime, and of course I plan on moving up as soon as possible.

Update 2:

I will also negotiate for at least a couple more dollars per hour. That is not unreasonable.

You sound as if you already made up your mind and this is something that you feel will give you a great learning experience and move you into a better working position. If you can live okay with the amount of money you will be making I say go for it.

well, it depends on the job market. If jobs are tight, then you are in a take-it-or-leave-it position.

But if conditions are average, then I would lower my expectations just slightly. If you know what you are worth then settling for a lot less may just leave you resentful. First, be sure to concentrate on putting your resume together or prepping for the interview by highlighting your skills and experience, which would encourage them to offer a better salary.

The job market in most areas really sucks nowadays so I would definitely go for it. If you get in and find out things will never improve much, then get out when something better comes along.
