You could try Northern Kentucky, two of the nicest cites are probably Fort Mitchell and Fort Thomas, but most all of Campbell, Kenton, and Boone counties are nice. I'd recommend staying away from Newport and Covington just because there are more lower income people and higher crime in those cities (but neither is anything like inner city Chicago). I would guess Northern Kentucky has a lesser amount of Rednecks than other parts of the state -- but yes they're still here and you'll see Rebel Flags.
St. Elizabeth in Crestview Hills (which would be very close to Ft. Mitchell and within 20 minutes of Ft. Thomas) is usually considered the best hospital -- and is much nicer than St. Luke (which has 2 Northern Kentucky branches). Many Northern Kentuckians commute to Cincinnati, OH to work. Cincinnati has tons of great hospitals including the world renowned Children's Hospital. Northern Kentucky is a great place to live because it's very close to Cincinnati (a major city) yet you can find many wonderful suburban and even rural areas. You definitely shouldn't have trouble finding a hospital to work at -- there are many within a reasonable driving distance.

if you don't mind a metro area, i would suggest louisville. Its one of the nicest cities I've ever been to, and I've been all over the country. If you want a smaller city, but not to small where there isn't something to do, i would suggest paducah or hopkinsville. Hospitals: Western Baptist and Lourdes hospitals in paducah will be good ones to work at. Yeah there are a few rednecks around here lol but actually it's not as bad as you would think. We usually have a bad rep for dating our cousins and flying rebel flags everywhere we go...My advice would be stay away from Eastern Kentucky (Bell and Pike county) ....thats about as country as you can get.

My college roommate moved to Berea, KY and I have visited there a few times. I think its a charming little town. It's outside of Lexington. Lexington could be Anywhere USA, all the same stores, all the same restaurants. In Berea, there is a small college (Berea College) and it seems to attract a diversity of cultural and international people. Yes, I have heard about the rednecks in the state, but in that little town, the college offers balance. That's all I know. Oh, the food...they aren't kidding when the menu shows ham, with gravy, with mashed potatoes and bread and turkey and bacon and cheese, and more and more cholesterol!!! Very rich food!
And the Lexington Airport is small, clean, and after an hour is about the most dull place in the world.

Living in KY right now, I can assure you that you will see your shair of Rebel Flag Flying Rednecks from border to border. Although the greatest amount of them will be from Eastern KY. As a side thought about East KY rednecks, my mother's pastor's wife is from Pikeville (East KY) and she blows her nose on what the most of us use as a "doo rag", then puts it back in her purse until she needs it for the next time.
If you're looking for bigger money, Louisville will be the greatest of your choice. Then, like was said, Paducah would probably be next. Owensboro has a hospital that has branched out immensely over the last 5 years. It's called Mercy Health System. If you like city life, somewhat, that is not big enough for you to get lost in by accident--yet big enough for you to get lost in intentionally--this is your town!
