Can you have a bad sensor and not get a code or check engine light?

1991 Acura Legend 3.2 lt v-6. OBD-I operating system. This car acts like it has air fuel mixture problems. Could the MAS or TPS be bad and the car not show a code for it?

It can be that the sensor is not reporting correctly. Such as an 02 sensor that will not make .9volts or go to less then .1volt.

TPS can have a glitch and the MAF can report wrong. The reason you do not have a code yet,is because they are still inside their operating range.

Be sure that your fuel pressure and volume are to specs.

Many time I have found that if you have a vacuum leak or the hose between the MAF and Throttle Body leaks, it can give you this problem too.

Only proper testing with the right equipment can find your problem. Such as a "Smoke Machine" and lab scope.

Auto Zone may not get your codes because it is an OBDI system. Higher quality shops can help you.

It's very possible! The sensor could be reading incorrectly but not out of range enough to set a code. I've seen it before on GM cars. The only problem is that you have to be familiar with the usual readings for any particular sensor before you have a reference point for comparison.

Not for long--I bet the fuel filter is clogging and it seems as if it is a bad mixture when you simply are just NOT getting enough fuel to mix with the air. Stop guessing and get to a service shop and do the whole job properly...can't guess at this stuff. Good luck

Go to your local auto store and they will scan it for free, if there is a code there they will find it.... if the part is bad it will throw a code....
