what should i do with my '92 jetta diesel? sell? or carry on with it?
i have a '92 jetta diesel (basic, no turbo) that is a tank. i love this car but it's getting old. in the last year i replaced all the clutch stuff (it was a $1500 bill) and now the transmission is being replaced as well (it'll be another $1500).
i know i could have used that money more wisely towards a new car (city jetta or golf!) but now it's done and i have to decide if it's NOW the time to sell this lovely old jetta or keep it because the main bits are all replaced.
it's only got around 215K km on it and the body's in great shape (west coast driven only... no snow or salt).
i'd appreciate advice from those of you who know about these things.
and, unfortunately, money is a dictating factor for me. i am not at a stage in my life where i can easily purchase a new car . yet, taking over a used one may well present the problems i am now faced with as well.
what to do.... what to do..... please.... advice anyone?
thanks.
interesting responses: 2 say keep, 2 say sell.
so that really answers my question.... the answer is: do what your gut tells you to do. and in my case, my gut is telling me to get rid of it.
thanks for your opinions guys... i can't pick a best answer because they all have merit.
you guys fight it out!
cheers!

keep it. if you have to buy a very used car expect to pay at least that on repairs of your "new" car. if you cant afford a car with a warranty then your better off with what you have especially b/c all the major stuff is done so as long as you have kept up on the required maintenance schedule you should get another 150k or more out of that engine.

Since you have already done these repairs, I would keep it. Your diesel mileage should be unbeatable. A diesel engine should last for 300,000 to 500,000 miles. A few repairs are always going to be needed. Be sure and keep it well serviced.

in the past ive done this as well...but you should keep it for another 6 months maybe....then you wont feel so bad about selling it...cos you would have had something for your expense on it.....
