When & where would be the best place to see the Northern Lights?

I have longed to see them for years & I've made up my mind to begin doing that sort of thing, not waiting anymore. So where do I go for the Light show? What time of year? Optimal viewing times? Any and all information greatly appreciated!!!

Thank you!!

Update:

Ha Ha Lacoste - Flock of Seagulls, yeah, I know all the lyrics to that one, could probably make it on Spelling Bee!!

Update 2:

So far, neither of these answers is doing very much for me...This was a serious inquiry & I wanted a few more details...I'll leave it a couple more days in the hopes that someone will give me good info.
