Dating isn't allowed in Islam. If you were trying to get married though it is allowed to a certain extent. But your definition of dating is when 2 people are on a date alone. Our definition of a date would be the girl's mahram (i.e her brother, her father, etc) is in the presence. But one doesn't just "date" for the fun of it, if Muslims did "date" it would be to find a potential husband or wife.

In Islam it's haraam for men and women of the opposite sex to be around each other unless they are married or blood related. This is because the Prophet(PBUH*) said that if a man and a woman are in a room together then Satan is the 3rd person. Satan might cause the woman or man to have sex with each other and commit Zina. Dating leads to STDS, AIDS, HIV, pregnancy, sex before marriage, heart ache, dead beat dads and single teen mothers. In Islam it is important for both men and women to be virgins upon marriage. It is a law from ALLAH(SWT) and is to protect men and women.

unless ofcourse, u have to date to find a wife. usually muslims have arange marraiges which tend to work out better.

Dating itself is not harmful if the 2 people do not have sex before marriage.
