Offer made on 01 Durango......?

I looked at an 2001 Durango 4.7 with 76,000 miles. KBB gives private party value of $8,310. This is a very clean truck in mint condition. He is asking $10,000 because this is what he owes the bank. He owned less than a year and has 2 years left on warranty.

I offered him $8,500 but would be willing to go a higher. He thought I was nuts and I told him to call me back with a better price. Am I in the ballpark here?

Update:

He's also bent out of shape over the money he spent on the warranty. I could care less about the warranty as they never seem to cover the problem.( used to this, past Insurance agent...lol)

Update 2:

I printed the trade, private and dealer pricing and showed him when I made the offer. I told him flat out that I would not pay him dealer price for the truck. And I figure no one else is going to either.

Everybody thinks their baby is beautiful...

The price is about right. I wouldn't raise much..Maybe split the remaining warranty cost..He's just trying to come out of this with no cost...which can't be done. He's upside down (owes more than the truck is worth), & the market is soft. He's going to take a hit with this one. Don't jump in or you''ll be treading water in a year..

I own an 03 with a 5.9 Mag motor. I have oversized tires...not by much, and I average 13.5 on the highway and 11. 5 in town. and 62,000 miles on the motor.

I would only ask $10,000 for mine and i have chrome nerf steps, rock guard, hood scoops painted to match and a compustart starter.

...long story short, if it is mint and you want it, then the ball is in his court. if you aren't particular about durangos, then tell him your final offer and walk away. $8500 is reasonable.

    PS. I love this truck.

I think your offer was realistice even if it did hurt his feelings. It's not your fault he paid more and owes more than the truck is worth. It appears you've done your homework so I'm assuming you are aware that you'll be buying alot of fuel for this as Durango's have always gotten shitty fuel mileage.

There are plenty of other vehicles out there.

He's trying to make his problem of having paid too much into your problem instead.

    Walk away from this joker.
