Why are some Christians..?

So very unimaginative? I've asked a number of

questions--two of just this evening--about purely

hypothetical scenarios that would be, were they

to actually occur, very different than The Bible

would lead them to believe.

Yet, they seem so unwilling to even ponder any

such thing.

Interesting. (And I have heard so many suggest,

over the years that "non-believers" have closed

minds!)

What's that old saying that comes to mind, here?

Ah, yes. "The pot is calling the kettle black."

We are actually very imaginative. We can picture heaven in our minds the way Jesus describes it. We love to sing and paint, write and glory in our God. What we refuse to be imaginative in is ways Satan is trying to get us to deny our God.

MAN YOU ARE SPEAKING MY LANGUAGE!!! I have a philosophy proffessor, a PHILOSOPHY proffessor who teaching intro to human nature like a bible 101. As a non christian I hate having hell and the nature of the world as told by christians brought up everyday. Even the brilliant Plato was ruined for me because my teacher insists on having us compare everything to christianity. He pretends to be open minded and "beyond" us students, but he might as well be another bible pushing, hell spouting preacher. Here is an essay topic from my class:

In one of the most important gatherings of bishops in the history of the Christian Church, The Fourth Ecumenical Council at Chalcedon (451 C.E.) accepted the proposition that there are in Christ two natures, God and human being, in such a way that "the difference of the natures being in no wise taken away by reason of the union."

John Hick, a contemporary philosopher of religion has written that, "the long history of debates [over Christ as God/Christ as man] is the story of the church's failure to achieve a clear and agreed upon spelling out of the broad imaginative conception that God was incarnate in Jesus." Part of what worries Hick is that the formula offered for the Incarnation by Chalcedon is contradictory, viz.

    Jesus is God.

    Jesus is a human being.

If one of those claims is true, the other must be false. Do you agree with Hick? Are those two propositions contradictory? Defend your answer. In your answer, whether or not you agree that the two claims are in fact contradictory, be sure to describe why they at least seem to be contradictory.

Don't worry if you didn't read it all, it is all very crappy. The ACTUAL topic isn't that bad. However, when I used my imagination and said Jesus is like Hindu gods who are unique but a part of a larger God A.K.A Brahman, he said it was good that I knew about such things, but that they were "outside" the question. So much for imagination and support for logical arguments...

Suggesting "hypothetical scenarios" concerning the bible just gets boring after a while, you know? Asking what "might have been" if this were different or that were different is like saying "Buy X Brand dog food. Your dog will think it's steak". How could anyone possibly know? Did they interview the dog? Hypothesis contrary to fact is the chief fallacy that leads to so much goofy "thought" about things that simply don't lend themselves to such things.

I think the key word in your question is "some." And I am definitely not one of the "some." I question the existence of God all the time. I like to think about the universe and conscious existence in terms of quantum mechanics. So, I just wanted to point out that we're not all close-minded, and we don't all push our "faith" on people. Some of us are very open-minded and willing to explore other possibilities. =)

PS- I can see where you are coming from though. Some people are "hard-core" believers who think their way is "it."

If people are unimaginative perhaps you have failed to inspire them. Perhaps they get tired fr hearing the same tired questions over & over again. And what really do you want honest answers or imaginative dishonesty.

no i happen to be very imaginative...just not when it comes to people wanting to change the Bible...a book that no one should tamper with. even in the last book of the bible, it warns people to not change the words. have a blessed day :)

Goarge, the imaginary funny looking spider who shares my desk with me, has something to say on this one:

    Yaboo!

Sometimes imaginary spiders can say the smartest things, even when it is funny looking.

Unfortunately, in terms of your question, the opposite seem the case ... ah la believers of x/y/z operate from the cosy nook of their blinkered stance.

Just because people aren't interested in you question doesn't mean that they are "closed minded." It always surprises me when people take no answer as an answer.
