Controversial, but still have to put it out there....?
I've heard so much about Americans being upset about the immigrants and all the problems they think they cause. Well, how do you think about it when you have to remember that we are all immigrants here? Even the native American was not indigenous to America, but they would be the closest to the TRUE American race, every other one of us, no matter how long our families lived here, ARE immigrants. So you are actually complaining about something your family was to begin with - an immigrant. So, why do you feel it's okay to complain about the new immigrants coming over today as if you aren't one yourself?

Of course I am the product of immigrants, I agree with you on that. The difference is that when my family came over, they needed a sponsor in order to even enter the United States. The sponsor ensured that someone was responsible that they would try and find a job, learn the language and customs of the nation. Immigrants like my ancestors had a desire to assimilate. They did not ask the country to change for them, they changed for the country. You can't say that about the immigrants of today.

That's a super question! It is very true and does make you think. I think though the problem stems from the growing population. Long ago when the population was small I don't think it mattered much. Now the population is large I think it presents more problems, especially when it comes to jobs. I think Americans are competing with immigrants for employment. The more immigrants there are the harder it becomes. Immigrants are willing to work for little because they are so happy to have a job. I think employers are taking advantage of that and choosing to hire immigrants at a lesser pay than an American at more. I am sure that people have other reasons why they disapprove of immigrants, but that is the best answer I could give.

Of any of the people that were wronged, it was the American Indian. My family came over on the Mayflower, started this country, struggled to keep alive, and sacrificed plenty to give this country a "jump start". The issue with immigration is people coming over illegally, not through the correct channels, which is by the way, against the law, and then do not pay taxes, take the money they make and send it back to their families to come over and do the same thing. If an immigrant goes through the proper channels in obtaining a green card, come over, pay taxes like the rest of the nation does, I have no problem with them. Then there is the health care issue . . . . . . I also have a problem with immigrants getting free medical care when many people cannot afford medical insurance, especially the elderly in our nation, and have to borrow money or simply do not get the care they should because of cost issues. Is there any equality in this?

Actually, you are right. The immigrants did come here, they were settlers from europe. But if i remember correctly, those immigrants (our ancestors) slaughtered and wiped out the native americans with the intention of taking over the land.
So how do i feel about that? Those immigrants?
Hm....good moral intention...bad argument. Your reasoning is helping idiots like Lou Dobbs build his career on that issue. I'll have to pull a Bill O'Reilly here and "cut your mic off"

This is not controversial; it is blantantly wrong. This argument is used by La Raza, sympathizers and hispanic groups. The Natives were already here as they are throughout the Americas. African Americans were kidnapped and brought here against their will. This is very important to note because those who are coming in are not being brought in but rather kept out. The issue is not about immigration; IT IS ABOUT ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION; CAN YOU SAY I-L-L-E-G-A-L? Your whole argument is weak and mute. Again, it is not controversial at all just inane.

There is a difference between immigrants and illegal immigrants, which I could have sworn is what the real issue is, huh?
Legal newcomers are entirely welcome. Illegal people...who take advantage of certain things we all have to pay into with our taxes, but they aren't paying into it...yeah, you may as well just consider some of them to be hacking into your back account without your knowledge because it's your hard earned money they are getting for free.
I used to work for a women who had legally come here from Jamaica. Was interesting to hear her perspective, and she's annoyed at it because she has family that are waiting patiently for their turn to come here legally, while illegal people just sneak in. So...it's not even just born or long time U.S. citizens who take issue with it. Legal immigrants take issue with it too.

I see your point and have that same point of view myself, but what I've heard other people say is that it has to do w/taxes for one. They cross the border and give birth, that child is American, and paid for by tax dollars for the most part initially. Immigrants are usually eligible for all kinds of aid which is also paid for by tax dollars. The other thing I've heard argument-wise is that it also has to do w/stealing jobs from Americans. I somewhat experienced this myself growing up--we lived in an apartment complex owned by this incredibly greedy and stingy man. His maintenance workers (who were great maintenance workers BTW) were paid by having a one bedroom apartment to themselve and there were like 5 of them and then they were paid $3/hr under the table....stuff like that.
At least, that's what I've heard.
I also think a lot of people are just still downright racist, which is absolute BS. Just my experiences though.

My family all arrived here legally. I have never complained about legal immigrants, just the ones who come here illegally.
Please address the situation of illegal immigrants in your next diatribe.
